Lofty I only suggested the idea of the war chest on the basis that Rahic and Rupp are genuinely serious about their three year plan. And are going to have to do something to show they are serious when the STs go on sale for next season. They'll look like complete twats if they can't convince 20,000 or whatever supporters that they really can be trusted. After this transfer window, they have a lot to prove.

It raises serious questions about our summer transfer dealings and what effect that will have on season ticket sales? I'm not sure what the strategy is at the moment, there was money spent last summer but not on wages which were decreased and the money spent has had little effect on the side, if anything the free transfers of Taylor and Chicksen have been better value. Can we honestly say we would get cash offers for any of the players we paid money for, i would say no. We've got one player that would sell for anything like a decent fee and that's pretty damning considering the number of players we've brought in so far under this new system. The Wyke example is a good one and demonstrates the type of quality required in a signing to make the owners model a success. Compare him with the other 3 we paid money for and there's a huge difference. He wasn't shockingly inconsistent and disliked by a good portion of fans at his previous clubs like Poleon, he didn't play okay for a season like Reeves (or half a season in Mcarten's case), he'd absolutely tore league 2 to shreds and banged in almost 20 goals in half a season. When you have a striker like that, all they need to do is score for half a season in league 1 and all of a sudden they are worth a couple of million. We got lucky that he had a release clause in his contract but in spite of that he's the type of player we need to take a gamble on. Let's assume we had payed 800k for him instead of 250k, we'd still be making over a million pound profit on him. It's a risk yes, but I don't see how the model would work without taking a risk. Paying transfer fees for bog standard lower league players in the hope of selling them on for large fees is completely delusional. We've got just as good a chance of selling Law, Deing and NKP than Mcarten, Poleon and Reeves. You either do it properly and bring in quality players who are actually sellable or you don't do it at all. Is anyone surprised Wyke is our only saleable asset? I'm not.

One thing it definitely doesn’t scream is potential for starting in Championship. Lets say we do get promoted - based on what we have it’s going to need a hell of a summer recruitment to survive at that level. We spoke about this on the way back from Rotherham, we aren't equipped for a tilt at the top two in league 1, never mind the championship. We won't get there anyway. Not this season.

It’s certainly made clubs more reluctant to release players so pushing prices up. Hence early all loans in Jany The January transfer window has always been a sellers market. Rahic and Mason have slipped up really by saying there was money available for a push when in reality there wasn't. It's clear from the feedback that the bids were not really serious, more like hoping that they would get lucky like they did with Wyke. If you have limited funds you are better off waiting to do your transfer dealings in the summer. How do you know they weren’t serious. We bid the asking price for Mellor only for them to move the goalpost. We shouldn’t be in the business of paying more for players than they are worth

We didn't the fee Blackpool wanted therefore didn't bid the asking price. When you bid for the best players at other clubs you have to pay over the odds, that's common sense. Why would Blackpool sell one of their best players half way through the season for a 'fair price' ?

As you say clubs don’t want to part so ask for ridiculous sums just as we are doing with Wyke. we should have concentrated on Loans straight away. Name a number 9 we could bring in at a fair price willing to sit on the bench most of the time

Rahic clearly stated they wouldn't pay big money for a right back. Why do you think we brought the Aussie in? Cheap, the lad needs game time for a world cup squad place. Then they make money on McMahon next week if we are lucky. We might have fucked Scunthorpe off by pushing our luck. I would rather the club consolidate any finances they have for a strong squad for next season for McCall (if he is still here). Anyway it's the selling club to determine how much a player is worth, not the buying club. We pay what is required. We don't, the selling club tells us to fuck off.

Our reliance on a bench that looks to have just come out of high school has bitten us on the arse, now we are having to bring experienced loans in just to give McCall some options. Thinking that 3 or 4 of your development squad are going to just hit the ground running and become regulars after a few weeks is naive to say the least.

You are praising the club for not paying over the odds for a player, others are criticising them for going in for players who we would quite clearly have to pay over the odds for, which we are obviously not willing to do. How much time have we wasted trying to get a fair price for Taylor, Mellor, Dennis and Moore?

Another additional point. Rahic's idea of a fair price is probably a lot different to other people's idea of a fair price. You only have to see the response from both Plymouth and Chesterfield who were basically calling us cheapskates but in more professional terms to know this

Lets be blunt - the only reason we signed Wyke was because we met the minimum sale release clause; who actually thinks we would have signed him otherwise based on our policy since? Had there not been a clause almost anyone else interested would have outbid us.

Why would someone offer more than the minimum fee? If he had no min fee release clause we'd have offered £250,000 and no more. Wigan or the like will over £300,000. We never get chance to speak to Wyke.

Any team were free to match the price and offer better wages. I bet there were loads of League one teams who would liked to have signed him but couldn’t match the asking price

8. Experience and physicality is what we needed, we’ve always had the quality, as proven by our league position and the large amount of liquid football we’ve been playing.
Now we can push on and consolidate our play off position.

But there was probably only about 4 league teams who could match the price so unless the likes of Wigan and Blackburn were in for him there was no chance of that

Build your side properly in the summer. Add a couple of loans in January where you need tweaks, cover, or to add that extra, special player to make a difference. It's not that fucking complicated.
