Moeen Ali has greater potential to become a world class all rounder than Woakes imo. A very underrated cricketer. When was the last time we had 3 quality all rounders in the team? As good as they've been/are, they only make up for the top order woes. Unless we start producing quality test match batsmen, we'll stay exactly where we are. I keep forgetting about Moeen Ali. We've got the makings of a very good side. If we could just get the top order sorted out. Take Root out and we look weak. Even mr reliable Cook has looked poor for a while and none of the new players look like a top test batsman.

We are a good side, just not quite as good as we were. We've been very good since the Vaughan days. Even before that we were dogged and hard to beat. A far cry from the late 80s and 90s team. I think the batting will come good. Root, Bairstow, Stokes and even Cook will still be around and quality for a good while. Anderson and Broad are nearing the end though and I'm not sure who comes in for them with such reliability.

I’m genuinely intrigued to see if there’s something to listen to on my way to work.
Root bairstow and Ali need 50 each and 20 from a n other. It’s not entirely out of reach.
TMS had a stat that no team since the 50’s that had the option to enforce on but didn’t has ever lost a test match.

I think there's a player by the name of Kevin who's available for selection that would make that top order better. just a thought.
anyway - I know we aren't exactly blessed with great options but I honestly believe James Anderson's time as a front line international bowler was over about 3 years ago. and the opener position STILL not sorted. Stoneman is abysmal. James Vince not good enough at three. Root has to move back up to 3.

Usual piss poor effort from the lower order from England. Game about even at the moment with Australia 88-2. Ali offering nothing with bat or ball in this series. Need him to turn up to the party.

England trying their hardest to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

The problem is that there are so many "experts" out there who get paid for talking absolute shite. Apparently Australia have a poor batting line up? Well we all know that Warner can play, Khawaja is not wonderful but can hang around a bit, Marsh and Marsh both centurions, Smith is on another level.
That said, the England bowlers look either past their best or too inexperienced. There is not enough pace in the "attack" and Moeen is not a test match bowler. He is an excellent one day player but not good enough in Test stuff.
England are getting totally outclassed in this series.

England are wank. Let's be honest, Ben Stokes wouldn't have made any difference to the overall result. We're getting hammered 5-0

The way I see it is that if the story is correct and Stokes was defending two guys from homophobic abuse, was then threatened by a fud with a bottle so dished him out a right good and deserved leathering, then he should be up for a knighthood, not being made an example of. TBH, it has Andrew Strauss' signature all over it. He seems to have an issue with players becoming popular. Need to get rid of him before anyone.
