A Scotsman who likes cricket? Is this normal? There are more of us than you think but you make a fair point. In all fairness the shortened stuff in the T20 is giving cricket a new audience which can only be good for the sport but sadly the proper (i.e. test) cricket is getting left behind. I get that people like the entertainment and excitement of the shorter game but it seems to me that all you need to do in order to get big money in cricket is know how to wallop a ball far. True test players seem to get overlooked for the "boom boys" I think it was quite important that The Ashes were competitive in order to regain a bit of interest in the Test stuff over here but it is another mauling unfurling at the WACA. The Aussies will declare about 250 ahead at lunch and England will be 7 down at close tomorrow still 100 odd behind. It surely must see the end for a few of the team as England urgently need a rebuilding period.

We’ve got some really promising youngsters and some good players who haven’t played as much as they maybe should have. What we lack are the experienced monsters. The guys who’ve been there, done it and can still plunder runs or bag wickets for fun. What we have got to fill that berth is Alastair Cook.

Cook is done, however in fairness to him he is still there because they have no idea who to replace him with in an opening role. They have tried the likes of Vince, now Stoneman, Jennings had one good innings then disappeared again. People used to give Ian Bell unbelievable stick but how England could do with someone like him at the moment.
So until England find TWO competent openers and he does not retire, Cook will keep playing at the top. He is one of Strauss' bum-boys, therefore undroppable.

As a batsman I think Cook is technically excellent but he has an annoying habit of giving his wicket away too cheaply too often. He also hits horrendous runs of form that seem to take forever for him to get out of.
We need a ‘bunger’ or two. Someone who sticks around doggedly like Ponting used to. We need some fucking gonads in truth.

Stoneman and Malan have done enough to warrant a longer run after this series. There is something there with both of them. Vince was a bizarre selection. He averaged under 20 for England before he was dropped, went to back to county cricket, averaged 30 and somehow got himself back into the team. Very very strange. As things stand there are not of players in County Cricket holding their hand up. I'd move Malan up to 3 and have Hales batting lower down the order where he can play his shots and doesn't have to face the new ball. I think he'd do well if given such a role. As for the near future, Hameed and Livingston are two players to watch out for. The 2018/19 County season is going to be a big one for Hameed in particular. I know it was only a few test matches but when he played in India he had International cricketer written all over him. He has age on his side too. If he has a good county season he'll get into the team, or should do.

Did anyone see Starc's delivery to remove Vince? Probably the ball of the century.

well that went well. I don't agree with eddiemate very often at all when it comes to cricket but he's bang on the money when he says we need to get rid of Strauss from that role they invented for him, and he can take Cook with him. rubbish. Malan and Bairstow are excellent though. the rest can get to fuck.

They've been very quick to admit it. Probably hoping that their honesty will get them off. Can't see how Smith can keep the captaincy after this. He should be fearing for his career.

How thick are these Aussies? Did they actually think they would get away with it? Everything is scrutinised to the second now, cameras pick up everything.

They're miles behind as well. The whole thing seems pointless.
