He's got a name suggesting a hard hitting cop who doesn't play by the conventional rules of modern policing. This cop's a maverick but carries a burden. Course his wife left him and he's sailing pretty close to full on alcohol dependency but he gets the job done dammit.
Nips in with the odd goal for League One outfits on a Saturday.

Makes no sense, going purely off this thread, ergo Ronnie Brown.

Really coming into his own and shining now as suggested in this thread.
I think before this season I'd underestimated how important peak fitness is to pro athletes. Clearly Edin did too or he'd have had people in place. No coincidence in my mind that we've starting playing football with energy now that we're feeling the benefit of a proper fitness coach. Payne seems to be pulling the strings now.
Jizzle said his contract might be up at the end of this season at Town. Is that right? Have we got him to the end of the season at least?
Not sure what Rupp's priorities are now for us but we should be doing everything to sign him up permanently.

We’ve got him until next month at which time I’d expect other League One clubs who can afford to to be putting in bids. Maybe even lower end Championship clubs.
He’s head and shoulders clear as our best player so I’d be amazed and delighted if we kept him until the end of the season but I reckon we’ll be seeing him signed permanently by another team next month.

He’s been a level above over the past half a dozen games (bar Sunderland), i’d be very surprised if a cash bid doesn’t come from elsewhere. Problem is he is intergral to us staying up. Now turns into a poker game where no one knows who will show what hand. We badly need him but probably don’t realistically have the money for a bid. I’d expect a Peterborough type bid to fuck our season up.

Surely we need to pull out all the stops to at least keep him until the end of the season? We are not a one man team, but it is clear he is key to us staying up, and maybe more comfortably rather than it developing into a nail biter right until the end. Seems risky if we don’t at least do our upmost to keep him. I guess financially they need to weigh up the cost of possile relegation against keeping someone like him. It might be taken out of our hands if he is offered a deal elsewhere and Town get some coin for him. If we could sign him, you’d like to think he could maybe increase his value anyway, and be a saleable asset going forward?

He's here, he's playing well, he's presumably happy and hasn't had to move home. This is where a forward thinking chairman (like the guy at Posh) would be making it happen. Get a bid in quick and get it sorted before other teams come sniffing.

Its a season long loan with a recall clause if they can sell him isn't it? I also think they have a 1 year extension clause in his contract which they may activate to get a fee or keep for the championship

This is the acid test for us.
During the Edin era he would have bid about £3.50 for him then come out with the Keifer Moore excuses.
Payne has demonstrated he's carried a shit side as well as being top scorer. The sort of permanent player we could build a side around. Bollocks to the policy of doing shit on the cheap, get him bought.
Or we can try and look around for someone else. Again.

Him wanting to stay is irrelevant if all we can do is ask for him to stay on loan.. Stefan could potentially get the majority of his current investment back by signing Jack up and potentially selling him on in the future. He is a player who is getting better and better each season. There is no reason he can’t potentially go for 3-5m in the future

I can't remember us having a really good central attacking midfielder before with goals and assists.

Sadly it amounts to the same thing since he can move in January as a result.

The other thing to consider is that Town are pretty likely to be playing in The Championship next season and they might want him for their first team.

As an expense to Huddersfield, Payne will be negligible, his wages and the money they'd get for him wouldn't make any difference. Get relegated and he's shown that there's enough about him to cut it in the championship as a squad player at the very least, so I'd imagine that as part of the inevitable cost cutting that would come with relegation he'd be moved back to the first team squad. If they stay up then I'd suspect that they'd let him go when his contract is up, in which case there would be no shortage of suitors. However for the time being I'd suggest that the situation favours us in terms of keeping him for the rest of the season, he's getting regular games and playing well. The only concern would be if they want to see how he transitions to the championship, should a struggling side in that division enquire about a loan.
