What about when our running in treacle captain could have tried to dink the ball over the keeper on 90 mins, instead just half arsedly lobbed it in to the middle....... Should have put his foot through it but instead shirked the responsibility of having a shot It was on the same level as Tony McMahon at Wembley RE making the wrong decision.

It was a tight angle and he's not got a great range of shooting and it would most likely have gone nowhere near, but you have a fucking go.
When you look at Mark Hughes as a player and see everything in his game and how he played and he has taken absolutely nothing into his management.
His coaching is awful, his game management abysmal, his tactics dreadful. He's a coward who has his favourites and its detrimental to the team. We got to 7th by Lewis being outstanding and Cook having a freak season. Many times this season you've walked out of the ground saying we didn't deserve that but we will take it.

This is the thing, he's a bit dammed if he does or if he don't. But it's not just yesterday, he's been like that all season. When faced with similar decisions in or around the box the instinct is to nearly always go backwards, go sideways, give it to someone else - he rarely wants the responsibility and he has such little intent of going for it himself.

Now that a bit of time has passed and we’ve had chance to reflect can we all agree on what a fucking feeble attempt to negotiate the play offs that was? It genuinely was pathetic. At no point did we ever really appear to be going for the win and, in the away leg, most of our time seemed to be spent waiting for time to pass.
What really irks me though is that the performance we witnessed was in keeping with our entire season and the reason I wouldn’t have gone to Wembley. This team not only can’t be trusted to turn up, it’s actually highly likely they perform poorly. The fact that nobody, at any point during the season recognised our failings and reacted is what pisses me off. We should have made changes to tactics and personnel at various times during the season but the fact that we stuck to the same style of play from start to finish blows my mind. When we were regularly having sixty odd percent possession and no shots alarm bells should have been ringing.
Looking back I think we had one good game and two good halves all season and for the rest of the time we either ground out something ugly and lucky or relied on Cook to bag out of nowhere or Lewis and his multiple MOM performances.
It was never good enough and we never deviated. As annoying as the play offs were it was a season long problem and we lacked the manager to fix it.

The only time our stuttering campaign picked up speed was when we went 4-2-3-1 and played with attacking threat on the wings.
The fact he reverted back to whatever dull as fuck formation it is when he shoehorns Clayton, our running in treacle captain and Gillied into a middle 3 and has Ridehalgh totally exposed was fucking criminal.
And YES I get he did that when Chapman got injured but who's fucking fault was it he couldn't trust Nevers, Pereira, Bola, Costello etc in that role? Oh yeah the silly cunt who signed them.
This failure of a campaign lies solely on Hughes arrogant fucking shoulders.

It all died when Banks' shot at the end of the first half at the VP was saved. I said on here I feared it coming back to haunt us. I get that you don't need to play beautiful football or win 4-0 every week to get promoted. You can certainly be successful with ugly football, but a lot of our performances this season can be summarised with how I described the 2nd half at VP - lacking any purpose whatsoever. It basically comes down to MH thinking he can get the players to play more intelligently than what the league allows. But they're technically not good enough, and it comes up against a brick wall when facing typical L2 opposition. He clearly has no intention or desire to bring in players who are more adapted for L2, physically or ability wise. Does that mean a team full of cloggers? No, but sometimes you need to match up what you're playing against to some extent. He has to do better at home. Miserable, slow, boring, going backward possession based football is grotesque to watch and get results from. I really worry about the goals next season, nevermind Oliver and Derbyshire, even if Cook stays he's had the best season he'll ever have and it's been 40 years since we've had anyone score that much. No way will it happen again.

The play offs just showed up our weaknesses in terms of squad but more importantly the manager. Carbon copy of Parky in the playoff semi agaisnt Millwall although to be fair Millwall were a decent league 1 side. Carlisle to be fair are just an average league 2 side but we're very well managed on the day by Paul Simpson. Out Achilles heel, our pedestrian backward passing midfield shown up by Owen Moxon in both legs. Our retained list will tell us what we need to know about next season, if we keep Gilliead and Clayton it's back to watching walking football again in the centre of the park. Our problem is we need some real quality in but I suspect we'll go with squad fillers again.

That second half is one of the worst manag.erial efforts I've ever seen. Let's face it we tried to defend a one goal lead for three halves of football. Only did we attack when Carlisle went ahead. As soon as we equalised we went back to defensive

Legend says Ridehalgh is still running back for Carlisle's first goal.
