Reminds me of the TV show where they look for houses abroad 'And the best thing is its under your budget'. I love those shows. Presenter: What do you want? Shifty looking orange couple: no more than five minutes walk from Puerto Banus, sea views, three bedrooms and a private Olympic sized pool. Presenter: sounds great what’s your budget? SLOC: eighty grand maximum That’s City’s conversations with agents. 'Our next apartment overlooks the airport in the tranquil up and coming city of Kabul in the holiday hotspot that is Afghanistan. Oh you're gay, might be a bit of a problem...'

Angol there was something about him impressing Adams by scoring home and away against Morecambe. Ridehalgh apparently impressed Adams in the playoffs. Adams tried to sign Foulds for Morecambe. Lavery is in the same swinging circle and Gillead was one Adams had been watching for ‘a couple of years’ before he signed him for us. None of them, it seems, are quoted as having been sourced by our recruitment team. He says, he says, he says, he says The point is that if you read the quotes from Adams when we’ve signed all these players they’re all about how that player came to Adams’ attention and not once has it been quoted as coming through the recruitment department. We get ‘he impressed me playing against Morecambe’ or ‘I tried to sign him a couple of years ago for ——‘. What we ought to be getting, at least occasionally is, ‘I identified an area of the team where we were a bit light and the lads in the data and recruitment side provided me with a list of players they’ve been monitoring. I then began the process of whittling that list down and scouting the remainder’. We seem to have implemented the longer-sighted, more long term operating regime, then made it redundant with the very next managerial appointment. We’ve regressed back to the state where, when the manager leaves, the new guy is stuck with a team the old guy put together and one he won’t get the time to dismantle and rebuild. Think of it this way: if, as is reasonably likely, Adams moulds this team of rejects and broken biscuits into a promotion winning side where will we be when Adams inevitably leaves? We’ll have a team that’s been made into more than the sum of its parts by the turd-polishing abilities of a guy that’s no longer here and we’ll sink again. All of this wouldn’t matter in the short term if we’d built a squad of real quality and potential but to me it looks like anything we have that fits that description was signed before Adams took the reins. We shouldn’t be building squads on the say-so of one temporary appointment any more and the more we see of this side, the more it looks like we’ve reverted to type.

Our players looked knackered last night we've already lost several to injury so far and we've absolutely no cover for Cooke and Cook when they get injured.... and they will do. Took Canavan out of the defence and we look awful at the back. We bring in a non scoring striker in lavery, a player who was kicked out of his last teams squad to make room for arguably our worst ever player. We brought in a player in Angol who every single football fan out there knows is injury prone. All this on the back of making a big profit from McBurnie, big season ticket sales at a bigger price and in Sparks own words a highly successful commercial campaign. So we've had the money just not spent it in a season where 95% of these teams have really struggled to stay afloat. The gompers can bang on all they want about our best start in so long but Bowyer had a good start and we warned them then it was going to slide.

Saturday will be a good indicator to where this squad is. To be fair they've started the season well until the poor effort at Orient, a win on Sautrday could easily see them go top. That said we are still short in some areas, we do look poorer for Angols absense and haven't gone all out to replace what i think will be a player who we will be lucky to see play again this season. And if anything happens to Cooke there is very little creativity in this side, i can see us going 4-4-2 if he does get injured or we end up playing the untried Scales in that position. In what is the poorest league 2 for years and the strongest national league one or two extra bits of quality could have made all the difference.

Out for a month I think. In fairness he should turn out to be a decent signing especially if Adams can get him to be a more than occasional striker.

On the subject of Adams’ signings, watching Kelleher start against Lincoln while Staunton sat in the stands was bewildering.
Non league cast offs shouldn’t be preventing our most promising youngster from getting game time.

Sikora, Scales and Staunton available for national league loan. Staunton doesn't appear to be in the first team fringe plans.

Some of you miserable fuckers are proper miserable fuckers.
I'll put with any of shit in terms of whats said, who's signed and playing style. But solely on the basis of it getting results and moving us up out of this god awful division.

Staunton is better than that carthorse Kelleher.

Staunton is better than that carthorse Kelleher. Has to be. There was a period last season where Staunton was our best defender. Granted he wasn’t up against much but imagine Kelleher in that defensive unit. Adams is griping about running out of budget but he’s the man who’s chosen to sign Kelleher and loan out Staunton. Kelleher should be hod carrying now and his wage should have been in the deadline day pot.

Looked like he’d been playing league football all his life. Duck to water. He’s either regressed horrendously or Adams is the anti McCall and is unwilling to even take a short gamble on one of the prospects “in the building”.

As far as Adams’ budget-related carping goes, we’ve upped season ticket prices and sold more than expected, we’ve apparently hugely increased commercial income and we’ve got shut of all the players on Rahic money. Income is up and outgoings are down and we’re still crying the poor tale.
Of the players we’ve got now who is likely to be on a fatter than average contract? Cook? Evans maybe? Vernam? Where’s the budget gone?

Also, the ground is being laid for players like Cooke and Vernam leaving on a free. If the budget is spent we can’t afford to offer improved terms. We’ll make up some shit about them not wanting to be here obviously but they’ll never get offered terms.
