Lurching from one style of play to another is the fans fault? Thought it was Hughes ripping everything up in pre-season. Sam is just as bad as Egglestoner©.

Reading the thread on training facilties on the other forum. Jesus wept.
We don't need Man City esque facilities, but the number of dinosaurs on that thread who are like 'Well they were fine in 2013 / 1999 / 1985 / earlier than that...', 'Lee Sharpe is just a pampered PL player', 'Cherry used to get them running in the car park'...
The comment from Sherwood someone dropped in made me chuckle a bit. Blackburn won the title nearly 30 years ago. 30. The football World across all levels is a million miles away from that.
It's. Not. The. 90s. Or. 80s. Anymore.

You have to laugh at some of the crap these people come up with to justify being kicked off the training pitch to accommodate Year 9 PE. Sports science etc has come along way. If Maradona was one of the greatest ever players whilst on the piss and charlie every night and was about two stone overweight, imagine how good he would have been with the regimes we have today. Same with Gazza. Some of our fans actually enjoy being left in the dark ages and seeing the whole squad blowing out of their arse after 70min.

Same with Gazza. Some of our fans actually enjoy being left in the dark ages and seeing the whole squad blowing out of their arse after 70min. Exactly, all relative to the era. I remember when we played Arsenal in 2012, noticing their players looked like Olympians in terms of physique, balance, movement - they weren't just buff, the impression they gave was genuinely one of world-class athletes, never mind the football. It's come on so much since then - especially at the lower levels. They're still not near that level Arsenal, but while the football standard in L2 is bit better than when we were here last time, generally speaking, the sports science / data / nutrition / biomechanics (all that stuff that's not kicking a ball) has grown massively and you can see the difference. There's a lot less big lumps and fat headed sorts, even the taller/ bigger/physical players look far more athletic. With non-league sides, a lot of players who have benefited from the science side,in combination with having natural ability, the discipline and desire to develop can break into league football. It's probably partly why sides come off and often don't change things massively, and do alright for a few years at least. Every industry changes with the time. Dinosaurs cannot accept football is one of them.

Man City might as well just train in the local park, throw a couple of jumpers down for goal posts etc.

Our training ground was an embarrassment in 1999. 25 years on, nothing has changed. No wonder we are where we are.

If we had better facilities over the last 40 years, we might have had more success than being good for a few years every 12-13 years or so...

"The past 5 games." Fuck and sake. Half of these players didn't want to know earlier in the season. It's almost like it's contract renewal time.

There's been more than that, has he been a bit of a let down? Yes. Has he been our biggest problem? No. Just remember who he's had playing with him in the middle headless chickens and lazy back trackers. It's not been till he's played with 2 players who can play actual football and can pass a football and track back that we have seen the best of him because he's been having to cover so much area while the others show zero positional discipline. His set pieces are wank though.

His set pieces are wank though. His legs are going and as a result isn't as mobile as he once was but jeez his central midfield partner link ups have been terrible. None allow him to get away with that lack of mobility, he badly needs legs around him. Pattison being injured was a huge loss to this, seemed to have the attributes that Smallwood needs around him.

Highly unlikely but I’d have Watt back. Two seasons more experience, twenty four so going into his prime soon and out of contract. I also think he’d work well with Pattison. He’s no doubt already sorted out with a club but he’d be ideal for me. Plus he contributes a lot more than Smallwood does.

Had one good season of Smith heading his corners in and that's it.

Decent ones we've had the last 10 years or so have been loans from premiership clubs or the championship. Need that youthful energy
