As moderately militant youths I remember we used to have post match sit down protests on the kop in the late 80's for a while, under a haze of cigar smoke and fueled by miniature bottles of Bells from Lana Stores (no age related questions asked). But for the life of me I can't remember why? This was followed by minor disobedience on the 605 back home to Allerton. Memories are hazy, but can anyone else remember these protests? We were actually quite good at this time so perhaps seems a bit odd. I was going to suggest a similar course of direct action in the forthcoming weeks. I'll get the Bell's miniatures in...ER would have to take notice...

I don't like the sound of that bus home. I'll sit downstairs. Near the front.

I don't like the sound of that bus home. I'll sit downstairs. Near the front. And you'll still end up in Allerton.

Not sure exactly what the protests were for but I remember complaints that he sold McCall & Hendrie, failed to invest the funds in decent players, sacked Dolan after he'd seen off Everton and Spurs in the cups, and set us on the road to relegation under Yorath and Docherty. I seem to remember us getting chased away from the ground by the police with threats of releasing the dogs after one game. Might have been last game of the relegation season.

Just for the record: I was never given any bottles of Bells or touched inappropriately by an adult.

(miniature bottles of spirits easier to smuggle in than cider)

This thread is making me think of folk setting off air bombs which bounced off the roof and exploded just above our heads

I remember the protest it was against Tordoff. Mainly all of us Patsy's lot. Then down to the Arndale for some high end shouting and bawling. Got some pictures of it somewhere.

Do you remember the rival to the City Gent that Patsy sold on his coaches for a few issues? Very slim, practically unreadable photocopied and folded sheets of A4, quite anti-Stafford, before Tordoff took control I think.

Yeah I remember him selling them/giving them away outside Odsal cos Stafford has banned him from the ground.
His grandson plays in my under 12s team.

Apparantly the stewards will be told ahead of next Saturdays game that any banners against the regime on club property must be torn straight down on grounds of "health and safety"

I say we take a leaf out of Charltons book but instead of crisp packets or whatever the use we throw excrement at the pitch.

He won't be happy. Besides, Edin and Abbott got there before you.

They should start throwing footling German sausages on the pitch.

As people have said and done on here with regards to ST's, the best protest is the regular fans just boycotting games. It not like having 17k actually there will 'be the difference' at home anyway. I just have a feeling that other forms of protest will just be turned against the fans. But i guess, how long do you wait until something happens? They can't stop fans chanting can they, the displeasure could be shown that way, although, even as clueless as Edin for example appears, he must surely know a fairly large proportion do not like him.
