Wyke coming here is laughable. He’s a championship player who was playing regularly before he got injured. Why would anyone believe that? Hasn’t this rumour just been made up by someone who saw him in the away end at Stockport? It's not an injury it was a cardiac arrest that flatlined him. He's got a pacemaker fitted and by all accounts he's struggled since he came back. He probably needs 6 months in L2 to get going again He had the cardiac arrest ages ago and was back playing this season but has been out with a knee injury since November.

With Wyke, injuries and illness obviously aside he's had one great season and some really poor ones since leaving us. I looked his stats up -
Sunderland 4 in 24 5 in 27 25 in 43
Wigan 5 in 15
When he left us nearly 5 years ago we all thought he would be a Championship regular in a few years if he continued his progression but it doesn't look like that'll happen. He's also 30 now so with his health concerns will it ever happen? At first I thought any link with us to Wyke would be bollocks but maybe L1 will be his level from now on so in context, yeah, it could well have been a possibility us looking at him.

Fans at Sunderland hated him the first two seasons then loved him the third. Then hated him again for going to Wigan for the money. I'd have him back tomorrow but lets no kid ourselves strikers like Wyke are well out of our price bracket. Might have got him on loan by some minor miracle but it would have seen Wigan paying most of his wage as we only pay in magic beans.

It’s really hard to see much of a strategy in this window. The squad deficiencies were obvious in summer, played out exactly as expected, and haven’t been addressed over January.
We’re in a reasonable place in the table, but without goals I just don’t see us getting far in the play offs. If Hughes wants to play bowyer ball, I don’t necessarily have a problem with that, Parkinson was pretty successful with it, and if the aim has to be to get into L1 as soon as possible, no matter the methods, I’m not against that either, but while we’ve still got a chance of doing that, it’s more likely we won’t. I just don’t see anything that we’ve done improving those chances, or even really putting us in a better place for the summer.
It feels like it’s another 18 months of marking time and waiting for something to happen. We’re not the basket case we were under Rahic, we’re just not going anywhere.

It'll just be Sparks trying to get cheaper rent and Gibb trying to get us to sign up to another 25 year lease.

It'll be Sparks trying to get a free day out for his kids as it's the school holidays.....

I’d rather Gibb bought the club than Rupp bought the ground.

Whether or not we bought the ground back would have nothing to do with Gibb. It’s owned by the pension fund and is beyond his reach. The trustees are the ones that would have to be convinced to sell.

I think Gibb would have significant influence over their decision to sell. Clearly had a significant influence on them buying in the first place when it was a reasonably risky 25 year investment at the time.

It should be purely a financial decision made by the trustees in the best interests of the fund’s members. In theory.

I will just blissfully live in my "Huw Jenkins is buying us and the ground if we go up" bubble.

4 years only until we'll need to give a commitment on renewal. So the next 12 months are key in terms of progressing any 'strategy' we might have regarding alternatives.
If Rupp is serious about this being an investment and growing the club, he needs to be building a modern new stadium that has other revenue stream opportunities with it. Then charge the Bulls rent to share it. Create a proper fan zone/pre and post match experience for fans to turn up and spend money etc. Not happening though.

I would certainly be prudent to have a back up plan should Gibb want to play hardball. But i think the days of out of town stadiums with fuck all amenities or public transport links are over. Indeed the current trend seems to be for more centrally located new grounds or redeveloping existing grounds. One of the unintended benefits of being based in a shithole town is that land can be acquired cheaply. Heck, you could probably buy half of Bradford city centre for the price of a new stadium. I always thought the Canal Rd basin would be an ideal location for a new ground, given its flat topography and central location. And the council could spin it as a regeneration project. Just as a thought experiment, i wonder how feasible it would be to build a stadium on the site of the soon to be demolished Kirkgate center?

And that area of the centre is absolutely vile, the area around VP is bad enough, it wouldn't exactly be an improvement. Only positive would be it would be nearer more pubs.
