Just seen a tall city player in a knee brace who shall remain nameless (he'll be back end of January he reckons), so I mentioned this, he looked pained and said he didn't know. make of that what you will. FWIW he can go for me. you been in Sainsbury's?? Yup. He looked frozen.

I'm torn between wanting McCall to succeed but not wanting to see my childhood sporting favourite get it wrong again. It was bad enough last time with his apology to the fans at the away game.

Stuart may have what it takes to get a team out of league one - perhaps if he had the resources the likes of Sheffield U had, but I'm afraid that he doesn't have what it takes to get a team up that has no depth and is seemingly devoid of real leaders.

The strange thing is he plays a way as a manager which is completely different from the successful teams he played in. He's only had relative success at Motherwell finishing 2nd in the pub league only because rangers weren't there. I enjoy some of the football from last season but fuck all in his first spell and very little this. He needs to go back to what made him an undoubted success as a player and implement that into the team

Apparently football is a different game now.

He's definitely guilty of over thinking. He needs to get out of that habit and quickly.

This safety first, possession at all costs style that we have is stultifying. Two attacking outlets from midfield feeding Wyke would go a long way to alleviating the boredom but, for as long as we’ve got Stuart, we’ve got Law.

Yeah, going to Valley Parade is getting less and less exciting and it's because you can almost guarantee that the tactics will be the same as always. Stuart's strongest team in his mind is one that has one winger, 2 defensive midfielders, one floating midfielder and one "striker" dropping into midfield (and Wyke). The "free" roles that the withdrawn striker and floating midfielder are presumably to create uncertainty and confusion in the ranks of the opposition defence, but it creates uncertainty and confusion within our own side, whereby presented with a team that are sitting back and inviting us on - we don't really know what we are going to do with the ball and who is going to move where. It takes a player to come up with a moment of brilliance or an opposition mistake to cultivate a genuine chance. I am not an advocate of the type of restrictions that Parkinson would put on players - but at least if they have a few specific jobs then it's something they can practice and perfect. Random bursts from left to right and running round in circles might show skill in retaining possession, but when does it actually create goal scoring chances? Not that often really.

For me McCall’s main problems are a) he worries too much about the opposition and b) there isn’t a plan B.
The Plymouth game still really grates on me as does the Walsall one where he blatantly fucked himself in the arse! However that is only two games out of the 20 odd we have played this year where I can definitely pin it down to McCall’s brainfart!
When we play teams that come to play football then we generally get a result which gives me hope that if we do manage to get promoted that his play is better suited to better teams! The obvious problem with this is that there aren’t many teams that do come to play football in League One which brings me back to the need of a plan B!
I’d still rather watch a McCall team than the Fun Hoover Parkinson hoofball any day of the week!
