Was going to put this in the Man City under 14's game thread but fuck it, lets have a new thread - lets discuss this colossal waste of money.
Granby reckons he's at fat as he is. I can neither confirm nor deny how fat Granby actually is but I'm inclined to believe this wasn't meant as a favourable comparison.
I reckon we (well the club) have got McCartan wrong. I think we've bought him as a number 10 type player, similar to Clarke..and I don't think he is... now granted, I didn't manage to catch many Accrington Stanley games last year (surprisingly) but every time I've heard Michael O Neill speak about him he describes him as "playing on the shoulder of the last defender" "an out and out goalscorer" "sharp" "makes runs in behind" "good finisher" "sometimes doesn't do a lot in games but then scores a goal out of nothing"
to me that screams out and out striker. goal poacher. actually it screams Nahki Wells, if there was a comparison to the type of player it says to me that is it.
are we trying to turn him into something he actually isn't by playing him behind the strikers?

Well I've retired from football at the age of 25 and currently 26 so you can imagine the beer has caught up with me. That's what Shay looks like, he's hit it hard this summer and come back in awful shape. He was awful when he came on against Charlton. You may have a point that Stuart may not have helped his cause if he is out of position but he hasn't even shown glimpses of anything. Granted he scored against Walsall but it was from an inch out. With us looking a bit toothless at the minute we really need him to step up.

We are crying, screaming out for someone who can provide that central link between the midfield and attack - for the last 3 years - it's the difference between a play off finish and an auto one.
Someone who can be a huge threat around the edge of the box, who has forsight other than going wide at every opportunity letting someone else have responsibility for trying create from a cross.
If mccartan or anyone else can provide that we'd be a right unit in this league. However If we're trying to coach it into him when it's not his natural position it'll never work. Most of the time you have it or you don't. Reckon he'll end up as another McNulty - not play to his ability at all and the rare occasion he does get balls he'll be overly desperate for something to come off.
M
Either way he's been shit so far and his smart arse comments from around the Walsall game only raised expectations further.

He's gotta get his shit together soon or he will end up like Isaiah Rankin and not the Robbie Blake we were hoping for

I've said it before but I'd sack the whole idea of an in-the-hole type of player until we're out of this league. An unsophisticated league requires unsophisticated tactics. 4-4-2 with two goal scorers and two genuine wingers. No more experimentation, no more fannying about, no more playing players out of position just because they 'can do a job there when asked'. Keep it simple and for fuck's sake, go on the attack.

Here's how it goes: LW Law RW Gillead FW Wyke FW Patrick/Poleon Quite why anyone would want a line up other than that is beyond me.
