This team could very well win this league.
But this club could very well get relegated.

How many times have we been here before? The eve of a new season and we’re saying this might be our year. Fundamentally nothings changed.
Somewhere between 6th and 10th.

See I think something has fundamentally changed, Sparks copped a lot of abuse last season and rightfully so. He's kept himself to his day job and kept his ego in check this is allowing everyone to get on and focus on their jobs. Hughes seems to have got the people in that he wanted both on and off the pitch and we all seem to be pulling in the right direction now. I still think we're light in a few positions but I'm confident that Hughes knows this and by the end of the window we will be fully equipped. It feels like we're now more professional and they've listened to the criticism and got on with it. I'm the most positive about our season than I've been in years.

People are scoffing at the thing Sparks has brought in or wanting to bring in such as the loyalty points system, digital season tickets, dropping printed programmes, refreshing the club brand / identity etc. This club has been shitkicking in the bottom 2 divisions for most of our history as we know and is seen by many as some perverse badge of honour. Too many gompers who are happy to stay in the slow lane, not have any change, keep things as they are. Because too many of them think they're some kind of big fish in our fanbsse and they don't like it when they realise they aren't the uberfan they made everyone believe they were. I applaud Sparks for upsetting the apple cart in this way. This club as a whole needs modernising and needs to start behaving like a contemporary sports business, not trapped in the 80s and 90s just because that's how a lot of fans remember it. Too many of our fans are like the miserable old regular at the bar every night, sitting in their same seat who hates anyone new or young who comes along.

I disagree, I think things have fundamentally changed. SparksY has buttoned his mouth and got on with the day job; for all I think he's a glib bullshit merchant, he does actually seem to understand marketing and PR, as we've seen with so many leaks that coincidentally time with a season ticket sales push, not to mention the desire to modernise the club's badge/kit/etc. We have a manager who has respect in the industry who can't be ignored/blamed/fobbed off. I think having Hughes, together with takeover offer from the crypto bellends, has bumped The Parasite into at least pretending to give a shit.
I don't know if it's enough, but on one hand this league is absolutely fucking terrible. A base level of professionalism with one or two sprinklings of real quality is usually enough to do well in this league. The last five winners of this league are Accrington, Lincoln, Swindon, Cheltenham and the Vegan Wankers. None of them were any great shakes.
On the other hand, I've been supporting City for 30 years and so I don't underestimate this club's ability to fuck things up.

I think what we’re seeing is a modicum of professionalism, I still don’t think our wage bill will be that high, and that’s pretty much what gets you promoted.
I guess I’m just a bit worried that it’s the off season, we’re seeing things be a tiny bit better than they have been and assuming that we’ll go up as champions.
I hope I’m wrong and the changes are much bigger than I thought, but after 20+ years of us being shit, it’s gonna be hard to shift the pessimism.

Anything less than top 3 is a disappointment. Reaching the play offs should be a given. We've got the manager, we've landed all our targets (allegedly), so if we fail this season we may as well pack it up and call it a do cos we're stuck in this league forever. Yep.
