Looks like a right back and another centre mid and we’re done. Get ready for a low scoring season with numerous schoolboy-level lapses at the back.

‘We’ll see what crops up’ just about sums us up. It’s the polar opposite of identifying players and actively, if not aggressively, pursuing them.
If I were at the club I’d seriously consider trying to discourage McCall doing interviews. He’s too much of an open book and City have too many amateur practices to hide.
We’ve actually gone backwards from Stuart, an iPad and some chocolate HobNobs. Now we’re sat waiting for the phone to ring.

So let me get this right, we’re relying on a tries hard but ultimately can’t cross or pass pair in dmh and Pritchard and a 1 game in 6 Ismael for the width ?

Boys and girls, I think we have the Bradford City statement of the 2020-21 season, to go with other classics including -
'Happy to have a club' 'But we beat Chelsea' 'Young and hungry' 'At least we're not Bury' 'We dust ourselves down and go again'
.....
'We'll see what crops up'
And people out there criticise this board and us for wanting the club to show a shred of professionalism in it's attitude.

Get behind the phone FFS You wonder how much cheapskate approach shit McCall tolerates just because he loves the club so much. As in, how many other managers with a shred of respect would genuinely put up with a complete lack of professionalism in so many aspects. He needs some proper fucking media training at least - he probably thinks literal honesty is the best policy but you can at least word it differently. Everything he says implies he's still trying to be people's mate than a manager.

We’re relying on Wood and Sutton/A N Other for width. I think we’re definitely going wing backs as first choice now with Ismail/Pritchard/DMH used as a secondary, tactical switch as and when.

It's one of the things that fucks me off about McCall, the way he calls them by their nicknames like hes one of the lads. It's why hes a good fit for the club, forget his past as a player, we are a 2 bob shit show. An owner who hates football A manager with no success A training pitch full of dog shit belonging to a local school A ground owned by a pleasure parks pension fund A vast majority of fans with no ambition A squad that is the worst in the last 20 years An app from the Apple Store with 1 star to recruit players A CEO who's a master of Admin It's a real mess, depressing really.

If McCall was just saying, ‘we’ll see what crops up’ it could be in an enigmatic, nod-and-wink way. The fact that it’s coupled with, ‘nothing in the pipeline’ is the killer. It changes the entire complexion of the ‘see what crops up’ quote.

McCall's whole way of going about recruitment is just massively dated at this point but it has been with our last few managers too. We seem to just love the 'old fashioned' types (with the exception of Collins, who was just happy to have a job) who want to go about recruitment in the most simplistic way possible and aren't going to come in demanding for anything to be overhauled and modernised. The club's in such desperate need for a leader who comes in and demands things to be dragged forwards into the 21st century but ultimately we're never going to employ that kind of manager because it's too much work, it's much easier to just accept somebody who'll do the job under the current circumstances and make do.
I don't think we need to go above the managers head completely with signings by any means but he just shouldn't be the man solely in charge of identifying targets, especially when we're basically at the point of relying on agents ringing up the club like a dodgy salesman with a list of players they're trying to find a new club for and then loading up the iPad to see if any of them look decent. I know people don't like us all moaning about everything but it does seem to be a message that's becoming more popular among the general fan base and it's important that the club needs to hear it. I don't want to right off McCall by any means or start planning for his failure already but the club desperately needs the next manager to be the 'right' man if it does end poorly - they need to be willing to employ somebody who's going to demand more from the club in the same way that the club would demand more from a manager for his failings because behind the scenes they all seem way to comfortable to keep on as we are and hoping for the next Parky to stumble along.

The club set the parameters. The candidates at interview will be told the framework they’ll be operating under. It’s up to the club to make the change then find a manger to work best within it. The club is setting McCall and every other manager up to fail because our way of working is so backwards. The lack of continuity comes from giving the manager of the day complete control of recruitment (and pretty much everything else). Every new manager that comes in inherits a squad built in the image of the previous manager so naturally, given his livelihood depends on it, he wants to put his own squad together. This we have the continual cycle of build, clear the decks and build again. We never build anything long term because the foundations aren’t there. Nobody wants an interfering CEO or chairman but every club needs one that takes an interest and makes sure the manager of the day has the best chance of success by providing him with the best tools he could have at his disposal. Instead we’ve got a chairman that’s busy chuckling his way around the Nurburgring and a CEO who, as far as anyone can tell, spends all day in his office gawping slack-jawed at a Newton’s cradle.

Yeah, that's completely fair and the onus should definitely be on the club to get things moving in the right direction. The club's just in desperate need of forward-thinking leadership and somebody who'll drag the rest forward if needs be. I don't really mind where it comes from whether it's somebody on a consultancy basis, a new CEO or a manager with the right ideas who is allowed to work with the club to lay the basic foundations of a modern football club similar to what Evatt seems to be trying to implement at Bolton - whoever it is, we just desperately need somebody to grab the bull by the horns.

We need a director of football who will stick around as managers and players come and go. I'd give the job to Stuart if needed. He loves the club and wants the best for it long term. As a manager it's always short term thinking as their tenure is short and volatile so they'll always try a quick fix or a safe method like signing someone they know and trust. Stuart falls into that category.
As a DoF he could be different. Pick a manager who will play the game right. Properly scout players for the first team and the youth team by actually going to watch them himself or have a team of trusted scouts. Always have players on the radar ready to improve the team with a few options for each position. Always have the next manager penciled in.
We've got a chairman/ceo in charge of the cash, Sparks in charge of media and comms, who's in charge of the football?

Obviously hindsight is 20:20 and it's easy to say now but it's a shame we can't have Paul Jewell back in the role, he's done an excellent job at Swindon. You imagine with the links to McCall and the history with the club he'd probably have jumped at the chance to return in some capacity too, prior to taking the Swindon job.
Then again, his stock had fallen massively in recent years before that so no doubt i'd have been underwhelmed at his appointment if we did employ him.

You employ people in roles which match their ability and qualifications. Irrespective of Rhodes apparent lack of ambition, he knows how to run a business. But hes no more football knowledge than the average fan. Likewise Sparks is qualified and experienced in PR but no football expert - he prefers egg chasing and speedway from what I can gather. The only other person on the board is Augustus. How on earth are they going to be any good at developing a footballing strategy, devising a successful recruitment process for players, and creating a blueprint for how the first team and age group teams should play? I dont see why they between them couldnt recruit someone who could do all that though.

We must be the least strategic thinking club out there. Clubs who were fuck all 10 years ago had a plan and are now reaping the rewards. Its not bad luck where we are, its where you deserve to be with no ambition and ineffective people in key roles.

This was one of the sides Peter Jackson put out early in 2011, a home defeat by Dagenham -
41 Hansen 05 Branston 06 Oliver 24 Moore 28 Threlfall 04 Flynny 08 Jones (Mitchell 76) 26 Bryan (Stewart 66) 09 Hanson (Rodney 62) 10 Hannah 11 Compton
Substitutes 31 Jansson, 16 Mitchell, 20 Burns, 07 Stewart, 19 Rodney
Regarded by some as one of the worst sides we ever put out. Jake Speight was part of this era as well.
At the moment, if we lose Vaughan I don't think we're far off being that bad.
