Without rushing in to full on gomper mode, I think he's done ok. Needs to work on the defensive side of centre midfield perhaps but in possession he seems pretty cool. Mostly tidy and simple distribution and in the first half tonight (when we were trying to play the bloody game ffs) he sprayed a couple of longer passes out wide effectively. Makes me think that he's been managed badly for the last couple of years. He hardly featured last year for us. Imagine he'd had a season out on loan in L2 or the Conference playing every week. We'd be seeing an even better player now.
Is he a victim of the home grown player rule as we have to have a certain number in the matchday squad?

Wasn't he injured for most of the last year? Had two bad injuries, one in pre-season I think, and the other not long after he'd come back from the first.

He's wank. If he wasn't "one of our own" the Gompers would also think he's shite.

He’s too risk averse to progress. He’ll only ever be a tidy player at best with his mentality and playing style.

There's a massive overreaction to him, he was poor against Oldham apart from a 10 min spell. He was poor again last night, he's too negative always passes back and side to side. I like the lad but he lacks balls and confidence and positive thinking. It's not just him it's Palmer too, they play too close together and too far back. No idea how anyone keeps saying Devine has been outstanding, I can only think these people are thick as fuck set 5 for maths and English type people

Hes only 21, so he has time on his side. But I dont know what sort midfielder he is.
I'd rather have him in that Akpan, but that's really about Akpan being a cunt. And useless. Devine looked decent second half against Oldham. But every other time I've seen him the game has passed him by.

What type of player do you put next to Devine?
Play him with a holding player and you're left with a midfield devoid of any creativity. Try to address that by instead pairing him with a more attack minded player and you end with a weak as piss midfield not to disimilar to our current one. He's a nothing player that negatively impacts the balance of our team.

He's a nothing player that negatively impacts the balance of our team. This sums it up for me, the common denominator is Devine and both of these scenarios leave us weaker. The big problem is that Devine is still better than the other options...we need at a very minimum one decent centre midfielder and then have our fingers crossed that he raises the game of Palmer.

Devine suits a 4231 being the 2nd holding defensive midfielder that can pass it out once the hardman has won the ball
