I’ve said before our front two will pull us out of the shit on a regular basis, their movement and pace is too good for this level. Oldham did have the run of the midfield way too much though, neither Devine or Palmer have pulled up any trees, Scannell with a good goal but still flatters to decieve. Wood not a left winger but pulled some right passes out of the bag, more of a threat than Scannell. Richards-Everton is the big bastard we’ve needed at the back, just don’t ask him to pass. Full backs probably did something or other.

Fancy that, 442, no Doyle and it’s the best result of the season. Yes, first half our midfield was invisible and we couldn’t win the ball back at all, but we improved a lot in the second half and hacktualy think Devine was very good 2nd half, when you take into account his relative lack of first team experience at any level. Palmer looked good too and could have got amongst the goals a couple of times.
I’ll even say Patterz did alright when he came on. Looked quite sharp. Shay got a couple of shots in, but Patterz looked more lively and had he popped up in those positions I think he’d have finished one.
Can we please also just stop OD making a six yard pass to AOC or BRE only for them to kick it into touch. Just smash it up to Donaldson or Vaughan and they’ll see to it.
Thought their number 10 and 18 looked quite handy.
TLDR we can’t tackle but defend alright and that attack has more goals in it than Bradford has takeaways. Everyone was at least a 7 today.

Let’s have some ratings then, you bag of cunts. I didn't watch closely enough to give you ratings but a few thoughts: Donaldson was impressive. Apart from a poor first touch the rest of his game looked top notch. The quality of his goal and assist was something we haven't seen from a striker in quite a while. Vaughan looked like he was going to score/create something every time he got the ball. Put himself about too which makes a change from watching Doyle up front. I can see him getting 20+ this season easy. Ben Richards Everton- Im not sure how he's spent most of his career in the Scottish pub leagues and Accrington Stanley reserves. He was very good defensively. Got stuck into everything and made some critical challenges. Not really a fan of his long range passing but as he does his main job I'll let it go. Rock solid at the back. Wood- Thought he did well today. He put in maybe 3 sublime crosses, one which resulted in a goal. I can see him getting a few assists this season. Wood in general has been underused in a city shirt imo. Scannell- Shit. Always ran into his man and lost the ball. He does at least try things and scored a good goal too, but his decision making needs to improve. Palmer- decent enough I thought. He looks like he has another gear to go through and I can see him getting better as the season goes on. Devine-Anonymous first half, good in the second. Patrick- Got the ball in a couple of good positions but did nothing with it as his control and awareness was that bad. O'Donnel- Good in the air, commanded his box, did what he had to do. Didnt really notice the the rest. To add onto that, I disagree that our midfield is poor, we created loads today and could have had 5 or 6. The only problem is that we don't have a tackler in there which means that opposition teams find it easy to run through us as Oldham did first half. Sort that out and the rest of them look fine. All in all, our attacking play looked good in a 4-4-2. A complete contrast to the Grimsby and Cambridge games where it was none existent. Bring in one or 2 defensive options for midfield and we're good to go.

Its amazing what a first home win at home in nearly 6 months can do. The claret and amber tinted glasses are back on for most. Patrick was awful, Devine did well 2nd half but was mostly fixing his own fuck ups. We really do have potential but the midfield is soft and the depth is dreadful. A good win but we've played 3 weak teams so far and much better teams are coming and we aren't ready.

Didnt go but sounds like clinical finishes? Can't whinge about that, been missing it ever since Wells left - that's a big step towards getting out of a league as crap as this one.

O'D - 7 Mellor - 7 AOC - 7 BRE - 7.5 Henley - 6 Scanz - 6 Palmer - 7 Devine - 7.5 Wood - 7 Vaughan - 7 Big Don 7.5
Saw a bloke sat in front of me with a City shirt on with Anderson on the back, and spent much of the first half wondering whether his name was actually Anderson or if he was just an absolute moron, so didn't really take much notice of first half proceedings

Agree with most of you. Quite a few impressive performances which is nice for a change. Can tell Donaldinho has played at a higher level just by the runs he makes (staying onside!) holding the ball up and getting attacking free kicks. Devine was excellent second half. Vaughan works his bollocks off and will bang them in for fun at this level if we can supply him like today and he can stay fit. BRE has a mistake in him but I like the fact that he loves a tackle and a header - it’s about time we had a centre half who isn’t soft as piss. Scannell flatters to deceive - needs to stay fit and get a run of games for me. Great finish though. Woods delivery is miles better than what we’re used to and makes a refreshing change.
It’s like we’ve been saying, stick to 442, get an experienced hard bastard in midfield and a couple more and we’ll do well if we can have a run of luck with injuries.
PS: Patrick is still shite - Bambi on ice with crap control but looks better on the right rather than down the middle.

Enjoyable game at VP today for the first time since about January. Front two are a cut above what we've had up front for a while, both as individuals and as partnership. If that pair are kept as a pair and can stay fit, then for once scoring will not be an issue for us. It's for that reason that we have such a great opportunity this season, hitting the back of the net with regularity and relative ease will see most teams promoted most seasons and I am encouraged at the other end of the pitch by the solidity of 3 of the back 4. I never thought I would say positive things about AOC but you could not fault him today. Richards-Everton reminds me of McArdle; limited as a footballer but diligent and solid (which at this level is about all you need). I am concerned about Henley though and I can't figure out if he is our first choice LB or if someone is injured? Anyone? The keeper was good today, he went walkabout a couple of times but when he did he got there and made the clearance. People have said that Oldham were good / dangerous at times, but O'Donnell got some good protection from his defenders and I can't recall him making an actual save. Palmer looks a bit tentative and didn't really stamp his mark on the game - but second half him and Devine did well enough. Thank fuck 442 is back. Scannell looked fucked after an hour and lacks the commitment of a Mark Marshall but had the chance he had for the goal fallen to the likes of Gibson or Patrick they would not have scored. For that reason, he has to be playing. I liked Wood and have never seen him do anything than show promise. The team that won 3-0 today should be given the nod in the next game, with confidence hopefully on the up. Gomp gomp gomp. Patrick is still shocking and will not be a pro footballer for very much longer.

Not a great game, Vaughan and Donaldinho the difference between us and Oldham.
Defence is acceptable, Mellor's fine, BRE can't pass for shit but he can certainly tackle, block, and win headers so fucking miles better than the weak shite we endured at CB last season; not sure about Henley but at least he isn't Adam Chicksen. Devine's better than Anderson or Akpan, but then who isn't? I'd be happy enough if he was back-up to Palmer and a new CM who can tackle. Thought Wood played well today but we could probably still do with a proper left winger. Scannell doesn't look match fit to me, but he was causing them problems second half when Oldham started to leave gaps at the back and when he's fit and firing should do OK in this shit division. Patrick was shite I'm afraid - when's his contract up?
6ish for AOC, Henley, and Devine, the rest were 7ish. First game I've seen for fucking ages that we haven't had a 5 or lower in the starting line-up - that'll probably change the first injury we get, mind.
