To add I think Andrew Davies seems to be underrated by the masses , presumably because of the injuries. Great player. Davies was immense. He was playing way below his level with us.

A bit if a harsh view but a fair few of the ‘history makers.’ As a squad they achieved a cup final and a promotion, as individuals most were bang average. Take out Wells and some huge slices of luck in the cup and a lot of that promotion season was tough to watch. Success gained by a solid back four and a striker destined for way better things. I always thought McCardle was overrated. That’s not to say he was shit, he was decent but no more. He’d run through a brick wall and stick his head in a threshing machine if you threw a ball in but cultured and riddled with footballing ability he was not. He was a solid, better than average lower league defender but our fans had him down as a League Two John Terry. In a back four of Davies, Darby, Meredith and McCardle the latter was easily the weak link. nothing weak about that on a serious note he was a very limited footballer but in my view an outstanding tackler and header of the ball at lower league level. Did his job and did it with a level of dedication that puts some of our current nancy boys to shame

A good player can still be overrated if people think he’s outstanding. I can remember a few on Claret and Bronco claiming McArdle was the best centre back in the league and not meeting much opposition.

Gunner Halle was utter dross for all but 8 games towards the end of his stay with us, yet some put him up there as one of the best rbs we've ever had

He was no prima Donna, he was absolutely brilliant and a total joy to watch. I got given a City teddy when I was 25. I call him 'Benito'.

John McGinley, Ian Banks. Not overrated as such, just both massive disappointments.

I think him and Davies were the best pairing in the league at one point, Davies would have been the best centre half if he wasn't made of glass. Parky did nothing if not build a miserly defence built on shithousery.

Not least by the gormless chairman who agreed to pay him forty grand a week. Glorious player, agreed the other 10 dragged him down, but the question was overrated not shit.

He was a class above, and saved the club and when the shit hit the fan he still gave his all. Nothing but respect for him

He was the second highest paid player in the Premier league that season.

He was the second highest paid player in the Premier league that season. Paid more than Scholes and Beckham at the time, I seem to remember. And on that salary, there's a lot of expectations.

I’m not having Carbone as overrated. Overpaid maybe but overrated no. He was our best player by a mile and everyone knew it but nobody claimed that he was the best player in the premier league.
Plus as others have said he grafted his bollocks off week in week out and sacrificed what he was owed to save us from extinction. I just wish that the rest of that team had his attitude let alone his talent. We should all hold him in very high regard.
