I'm a massive unashamed Gilly fan. I fully admit that sentiment plays a part - he's our only link to our last good team in 16/17 - but I think he's far better than he's given credit for and his longest stay at the club being a period of mediocrity is less to do with him than the succssive managers, their tactics and the players around him. I think he's a better player and character than Smallwood, and given we now have Pattison back, Bobby emerging and signed Sarcevic, I'd far rather we'd let Walker go.

I changed my tune last season, he stepped up in those few games as captain when Smallwood was out. It's a fact that he doesn't score enough, assist enough BUT neither does Smallwood. I'd have Gilly over Smallwood all day long, more drive, energy and enthusiasm. That said we could and should be looking to improve on both of em. It's also strange that last season Alexander was bigging him up, now he's surplus to requirements? I bet the players, especially McDonald, think Alexander is a right cunt. |
