People are a little quick to compare McDonald with Trueman/Sellers, when in reality those two spent their playing careers around step 9 on the pyramid whereas McDonald's time at Fulham saw them bounce between the Championship and the PL. And I'm not citing that to compare playing ability but to compare the environments they've worked in and the experience they might have picked up.
All but one of our successful managers in the past 50 years was in their first job with us, two of them were even player manager whilst the others had about a year as player/coach before taking the reins.
There's no need to rush but if the team continues to perform, and McDonald wants it, I'd just give it to him. Anyone else we could appoint will have been sacked somewhere else already, possibly more than once.

Mcdonald is 35 in a few weeks - realistically he has a couple of seasons left at most as as a pro player, and it would probably be at this level.
If the players are reacting to him positively as a manager and we're getting results, I can see fans saying 'give him the job' and him being offered it until the end of the season at least. Whether he would want to give up his last chances of playing though would be the issue, and does he want to be a coach / manager in the future? He's dabbled a bit, and he's coming to the point where he's going to decide if that's his next career direction.
It's like his post match interview 'we should be dominating teams' - it's like we've been waiting 6 years for someone to FINALLY say what we've all been thinking.
At least if the fans were wanting him appointed then like as Hobhead says Sparks can say that's on us and not his fuck up.
Unless the club have someone else in mind I can see KMCD being given this month, seeing as we have 3 difficult league games coming up, before making a decision to stick or twist.
Also, the handling of Pointon could be a big factor. The reality is he won't be here long term and we need to build up a potential future transfer fee in him, which would probably be our biggest in years. That development could be a big part in whoever takes over. Tying him down past the end of next season (I think) is the first priority and he needs a manager he believes will help him develop.

The next managerial appointment is a critical one and we shouldn't be in a rush. Let him have it for a few games and everyone can suss the lie of the land. Often in life, best laid plans rarely work out as you'd want, and timing is everything. Sometimes things click into place when you'd not expect and you just have to roll with it. For the right bloke, we're a huge opportunity. Even with our ownership situation.

Williamson from Gateshead gone to MK Dons. Whilst we fuck around, they get the job done. He’d have been great for us. Watch him do a Wellens and win the league whilst we get some failed dinosaur in.

Blaming the players for his failings, and the fans hated him for his shit football. I’m off down the bookies to lump the mortgage on it.

What sort of football does Cowley play? If it’s hoofball, Cowley out.

From a Portsmouth fan on the Cowleys
"Cowley's style here was to try a high press when out of possession, not always but in certain situations and for a set duration. Sometimes it worked but not always. Defensively we were generally pretty solid.
Attacking wise, he was a fan of switching play with long diagonals out wide to try and create overloads. Then get the ball into a powerful striker who was good in the air but also decent on the ground. The best version we saw of this was when we had George Hirst on loan in season 21/22.
What we rarely saw was any attempt to play through the middle, making us a bit one-dimensional and easy to defend against. Our opponents started doubling-up in the full back areas and forcing us to funnel the ball through the middle, which we were pretty hopeless at. During the bleak days of last season Oct to Jan we were barely creating any chances for Bishop.
Recruitment-wise, yes, they wanted total control and by all accounts turned down plenty of recommended players, which we'd then see do well elsewhere. Our CEO got very frustrated with this, hence the move to bring in sporting director Rich Hughes from Forest Green early last season.
In hindsight our dreadful form at the back end of last year was a blessing, and gave Hughes an opportunity to bring in his own man, and someone who was happy to work in the new structure.
So, the Cowleys are nice people, who are great at reconnecting the club with the fans if that is an issue. Their football can be effective if they can recruit the right players for their system. It's not always pretty, but they don't just go long to a big striker which is a bit of a myth. They tend to want to hit long balls to wide players who can either cut in and shoot or supply the striker(s)."

Cowley making noises himself now
Seems Macdonald has dropped out of the picture for some reason
Not sure why. I reckon we were pretty good again at Wrexham. But sounds like we are set of someone new

Anyone else we could appoint will have been sacked somewhere else already, possibly more than once. I'm coming more on board with this I think. The seasons probably a bust. We've left too much work to do and I can't see our team going on long runs without losses.
McDonald's got his wits about him and has obviously cracked at the very least what you need to do to not be losing at home for fun.
