I know that it’s stating the bleeding obvious but that first goal completely changed the game. It had been fairly even up until that point but what a fucking awful pass from Smallwood. We make too many mistakes on the ball and today we were up against a team who were good enough to punish us where other teams havnt been.
A lot of our problems particularly at home come from our central midfield, neither of them are good enough on the ball to dictate a game especially at high tempo and it causes massive problems in trying to break down teams who sit deep but even more so against teams who press us into mistakes like today.
Northampton looked good but we gifted them the first two goals. I worried when I saw the team. Songo’o is a liability when he’s isolated or in the channel. He’s good in a physical battle but not in a team who need to be good on the ball. Hughes got that selection wrong for me especially given that Yann had to play on the left side of the pairing.
Also, why did Eisa keep his place over Wright? That was another wrong call for me. I’ve not seen much of Abo but I’ve see enough of Tyreik to know that he’s one of our biggest threats. Abo was quiet in large parts although he does look decent at cutting in and shooting (like all of our other “wingers”).
All in all it needs to change at home or we’re going nowhere.

Thinking about it, if I'd stayed and shouted a bit of encouragement we may have won 4-3. Shit, I feel quite bad now. Sorry lads. I left too got home 40 mins earlier cans in hand takeaway nearly here. I know I made the right decision, despite the shouts of "remember Barnsley" dickheads 'Remember Barnsley?' Lol. We were down by just the one then, not three. Simpletons. And from what I remember we were battering them all half before we did eventually score. I left on 87 in the end. Thought traffic would have died off a bit by then.

Not sure where all this crap about Northampton being a good team is coming from. We were better for the opening 30 mins, gifted them 2 goals and their subsequent counter attacks were coming from us leaving an alarming amount of space in the center of the park and defense. We made them look far better than they actually are.

They cut through us at will with quick passes around us and they had men making runs in between and behind our centre backs and the passing to spilt them. They were far better than us and they did it playing the sort of football everybody in the stadium is desperate to watch us playing. It was that and not just the result that was the slap in the face for us.

I thought they looked slick, organised and their movement off the ball was seriously impressive in comparison to our lot. Every time they had the ball they had two or three not only wanting the ball but moving for it - we were chasing shadows for the most part.

It was that and not just the result that was the slap in the face for us. Thought it was even until their first but after that they just motored ahead. They didn't try to time waste or sit on their lead, they were always looking for more. Quick movement of man or ball is what we really struggle against. Our patient play gets left in the dust when you see sides moving the ball forward quickly and runs being made around our defence. Good point though from the other board - not a game for Eisa who is still getting used to things and with the context going into the game. Wright should have started and Eisa should start against Salford in the no-one gives a shit cup on Tuesday for that game time. Not when its 4th v 3rd. If the away form drops off and the home record continues the groans will get louder. We all knew it would happen to Bowyer and it did. 6 home wins over the last 12 months. Another manager who thinks slow, patient football is the best way to get the home crowd behind you. Bowyer, Adams, McCall - and add MH to that list. Slow and steady at all costs.

Cook is about the only one that does it, embryo e else is regimented in position.
