Our first choice wingers are going to end up being the ones that were already here.

I thought we looked ok. Angol gets in the right positions and looks to make things happen he just looks very rusty. I think he'll come good.
Gilliead as per his previous stint - looks good on the ball, neat and tidy but doesn't make much happen.
Cooke far too deep. Watt wasteful again.
Vernam looked good when he came on.
Good point ya negative fucks.

Good point ya negative fucks. That's why scunny moved Gilliead inside and he was a better player for it so why do we feel the need to put him back? Angol has only "come good" once in his career, his movement was good and he tried to be positive but he's absolutely no better at being a striker than Clarke or Donaldson. Vernam is too quick for his own good and dropping Cooke back was massively detrimental to our 2nd half performance. And how has he not brought Eisa on ?

Clean through, man over, pass made, Angol fucks his touch up. 147’s called one right at last. He’s shocking. Fucked his touch up and then eventually took a shot in to the side netting when there were better placed players open in the centre. I wouldn't go as far as shocking, some nice work coming deeper and linking, but he's no striker. Hoping that number ten shirt has someone goods name on it soon. Overall a decent performance I thought, they weren't all that which is just as well.

Thought we were decent enough. I'm the first to slander someone if they're shit but I don't get some of the watt hate. Thought he had a good game generally. Gave the ball away a few times as usual but they were generally in situations where he was trying too hard to make things happen.
Sutton was good at RB. Ridehalgh is painfully slow and his way of dealing with a pacey winger is to assault them but he got away with it so fuck it.
Angol couldn't finish a wank but decent otherwise.
Gilliead was gilliead.
Vernam promising.
Overall decent point for the first game.

We're moderately better than a poor Exeter team. Watt shite as usual under another manager and still manages to stay on. Based on this game and Adams decisions in it I can see it being another long season. If Exeter are top half this season I'd be very surprised. I think they'll be top half easy, you're hugely underestimating how shite this shitty, tinpot, dog and duck league actually is

I think it's us that everyone is overestimating simply because they've not been to a game in over 18 months. I didn't see any pre season games but it looks like those who have have gotten carried away. We looked absolutely no different to the first 15 and last 15 games of last season for me and didn't look likely to score. I'm hoping Songo'o will make the difference and Eisa will get his chance and what I saw yesterday was just rustiness.

Over 80% of league 2 games will be like ours yesterday where either side could have won. What gets you the promotion is what Paul Mullin did for Cambridge or Stockton at Morecambe and that means one of our strikers is gonna have to hit the magical 20+ mark because the midfield has very few goals in it. And I'll be honest if Cook doesn't have that season he's failed to have during his time in league 1 or 2 then I can't see us going up.

Lots of people calling yesterday ‘encouraging’ but I was left hoping what I was seeing was early season rustiness and saw little to be encouraged about. I’ve said before that I think our recruitment has been wank at worst and average at best so I was really hoping to see a well-drilled, rigid team who were strong and regimented in defence and direct in attack. What I saw was the same jumbled mess we always see including players playing out of position, better players on the bench and a side that seemed to be relying on hope as a tactic.
As for Angol I’m seeing a lot of compliments about his link up play. Not wearing that either. His so callled link up play involved him dropping deep to collect a pass (mostly due to his complete inability to get in a decent position once he got in the area) only to either fuck up his touch, over hit his pass or simply and inexplicably lose possession. His performance yesterday just amplified my concerns about our strike force even more. We have one striker on the books. One.
All that said it was the first game and all of what I’m hoping for in the first paragraph could well develop as the season goes on and the team grows into Adams’ way of playing while he learns more about his best side. The Angol hill I’m dying on though. Useless cunt.

Cook is an improvement on the four we had at the start of last season but we’re still 15-20 goals short of the automatic spots. Completely fucked if he gets injured. I want to be wrong but Lavery and Angol are strange signings. bUt stOCkToN goT sHiT LOaDs is the answer.

We’re seriously light up front so if we’re doing the old wait-for-the -January-window tactic to sign anyone else up there then we can forget any hopes of promotion. If Cook gets injured we’re in trouble.

I thought gillerz was a winger. Well he was last time he was here. So I was surprised when the game got going and we had no wingers, positionally at least, yet gillz was on, Vernzy, Shawzy and Eisaz on the bench too.
Was that just so we could play the dream team of angol and cook? Because lemme tell you summat lads, that’s a dog shit plan. Lee “two nice touches in the centre circle” is literally a waste of a player. Lots of praise for his link up play and touches here. Where was his nice touch when Vernam played him through? As expected, it completely abandoned him.
Once again, I’m baffled by how our best and most dangerous players seem to be on the bench. Also that LB is shit and I’m starting to think Watt will never learn to pass the ball to someone in the same colour shirt.
There’s some decent peices but the jigsaw isn’t put together right just yet. Even when it is, we’re still massively short on fire power.

I'm sure he'd have been more potent than Clayton Angol, he must be carrying a knock

Saw the team sheet yesterday and was scratching my head. 13,000 season tickets sold at a 25% increase , innovative schemes yielding us additional revenue, new lucrative sponsorships, extra investment in the analysis/recruitment department, wage thief's such as Donaldson and Ismail off the books, no-nonsense, 4 time promotion winner Dereck Adam’s in the building and an ambitious refusing to take failure for an answer and yet all we have to show for it is a starting 11 that is virtually the same as last season.
Promotion or not, that’s quite concerning in the long-run.

A side intent on promotion would have won that game yesterday, I'm just hoping Adams told them that after the game.

The most concerning thing for me is that we’ve apparently changed our M.O. by investing in data analytics and Turnbull then immediately gone back to signing players the manager has worked with before. Cook aside as anybody got any ideas as to which of our new signings were identified by this new infrastructure?

Cook aside as anybody got any ideas as to which of our new signings were identified by this new infrastructure? Is Turnbull really needed? He was brought in to help a manager who's record of getting the right player in was poor. Then we got 2 inexperienced coaches in who needed him to do that side of things so they could concentrate on the coaching. Now we have Adams an experienced winner with a deep knowledge of players in the bottom 2 divisions. He doesn't need a man with a poor track record with clubs who was operating at conference level before we got him. And if you remember Adams little rant after the Chesterfield game I keep wondering if its Turnbull who that's directed at.
