I'm telling you now, T&S aren't it.

Not sure I've seen a performance worse than this. Bowyer served up some shite but this is equal. What an earth are we doing? It’s been desperately poor. It’s all well and good saying that winning ugly is a good habit to get into but fuck me we need a performance to instil some belief and confidence into this side and the fans.

It's almost like they've thought " fuck it we will just be Bowyer till Cooke gets back". We've absolutely gone to shit and very lucky these teams are as toothless as us.
But it's the 3 points that count and there's now 3 play off places up for grabs now. I don't care how we go up as long as we do.

Bottom of the table, down to 10 for 45 minutes - but we put them under zero pressure in that second half. The shot from Wood that hit the bar was all I can recall. It was very Bowyer-ish - safety first rather than commiting forward, then just trying to see the game out, not trying to raise the tempo or intensity in any way. Even the goal we scored came from a Grimsby deflection. They can get away like Bowyer did for a while as they're managing to get results, but results can dry up very quickly if you take them for granted.

Against the 92nd club in the league with ten men and we end up with less possession. Trueman and the other guy got out of jail big style today. What an earth was the strategy today? What was the game plan, cos from where I was watching there wasn't one.

A worrying bit of defensive reaction from T&S for me. Grimsby were getting on top in that first half so they dropped AO'C into the defence to counter it. The real problem was that we weren't keeping the ball well enough through the midfield and into their half which will always be tricky when you're relying on 3 players at the end of their career to do that for you.

It’s daft to be so reliant on one player, January was a better window than for many a year but an alternative to Cooke and Watt/Sutton is missing

Yeah we need some better players, miss Cooke etc. But that setup is shite coaching. Simple.
T&S have 'done well' to get us away from the bottom 2. Or have they? Did they just set us up in a bog standard, defensive league 2 manner and we've just plodded on.... how many times have we played well and looked like we're sent out to play front foot football?

That was a disgusting performance against a shit Grimsby team. 3 points is very welcome but fucking hell we can't be talking about the play offs when we're serving that shit up.

We haven’t controlled midfield for eons. There appears no combination that can do the basics and do them well, or even adequately. Tackling is, at best, hit and miss, control of possession is non-existent and creative play is less than zero. Today’s system and style of play has been shown up against the worst side in the league with 10 men; what does that say about the quality of this league? Coupled with the horror show of the the first four months how are we in with a shout of the playoffs?

If anything gives me hope it’s the huge difference that strengthening the midfield would make to this side. I’ve said it before but for the first time in ages we’ll be going into the closed season with a decent framework in place. Another window like January and we might just do a bit. No total rebuild, no relying on manager’s contacts and no Rhodes phoning McCall because he can’t be arsed doing interviews means there’s got to be hope of something different happening

We're going on about January, but how many January signings started today? Just Canavan and Cook, granted two of our better players. That Clarke and Evans start with Sutton and Cooke injured says a lot about our recruitment.

Potential summer movements have been discussed to death but keeping the majority of the current squad together wouldn’t be the worst thing and with a couple of decent additions...
Working on the assumption that Crankshaw and Vernon come good and we replace Wood with a like for like, which shouldn’t be that difficult as he’s not really performed this year, the midfield is the key. Hopefully Turnbull’s IPad is better than Stuart’s.

That Clarke and Evans start with Sutton and Cooke injured says a lot about our recruitment. Fair point but remember the bench before January. Plus you could make a case for two or three of the January signings starting more regularly than they have done and that might have put a rocket up some of those already here. Either way we came out of January much stronger than we went in.
