Looks like we’re about to get weaker:
(from today’s T&A)
It’s no surprise since we’ve known about it for a while on here but it’s still worrying. It makes a poor forward line look desperate without Vaughan in there. The whole of next season will hinge on how McCall fixes that front line mess.

Strengths: The new wage cap plays to our agenda of doing things on the cheap.
Weaknesses: The players, the lack of boardroom planning and ambition, questionable scouting methods, the pitch.
We'll be fine.

Thinking about that forward line (again) and the average age is another restricting factor. I’m normally the first to focus on quality above all else but if we sign any more old uns we’re going to be left facing a time in the not too distant future where they could all proceed to the knacker’s yard together.
We need to bring that average age down as well as massively improve it. Thank god we’ve got McCall and his iPad on the case.

Cheap, plain, boring, lacking in thought and there are loads that do their primary job, being dunked in tea in this case, lots better.

With the right service I'm not to bothered about the attack, I think 2 from Novak, Donaldson and Vaughan will suffice if they stay fit. The central defence and midfield are more concerning, its still basically the same personnel that looked shocking at the back end of the season. The central defence is vulnerable if that central midfield isn't sorted. Still 2 or 3 key players away from being competitive. I think Vaughan can get goals if we build around him but out of the other 4 Novak can finish but has no pace, Don has lost pace and misses more sitters than he scores but his hold up play is top notch, you know what I think about Clarke and we all know what Guthrie is. Stuart needs to pull a few rabbits out of the hat otherwise we struggle all over the pitch. It's such an important window this one, if we get off to a poor start after the last 2 seasons there will be hell on. We all want Stuart to be a successful manager but I don't think he will last long if we're in the shite by the end of October. Its happening....

It’s funny how the midfield is identified as potentially our strongest area and yet we seem so determined to bypass it. We so rarely build from the back, play through the midfield and try to fashion a chance, choosing instead to bypass the midfield (which sits too deep anyway) in favour of a low percentage, panicked wallop up to the opposition centre backs‘ heads.
Novak is too deep and Donaldson too slow to get on the end of it and in his brief cameo last night Samuels looks even less suited to the tactic. Unless we stamp it out now we’re going to fashion even less chances than your standard McCall side and come under much more pressure. We’ll also be much easier to play against especially for any team that can break rapidly and we’ll surrender more points to teams like Harrogate.
The team’s shit and so are the tactics. It’s going to be a long old season.
