How many players have we had over the years who have been genuine scapegoats? Law arguably came in for harsh criticism but even he epitomized a team that lacked any sort of clinical edge.
I cant really think of anyone tbh.

I cant really think of anyone tbh. You're right with Law, Billy Clarke too. Notice what these players have in common? They're footballers, not 6 foot 5 donkeys who run around a bit and have "presence". That's what's wrong with our fans, they don't appreciate genuine talent and ability, or good quality football. I'm convinced they'd rather watch us under a Parky, Grayson or Neil Warnock playing defenders upfront because they hit that 6 foot marker, whilst we're "tough to beat" and playing "hard brexit" football, rather than quality, free scoring football under a pep or klopp type.

Gompers are usually the ones who have fat kids who come last in school sports days or were that fat kid. I’ve often wondered whether their outlook is due to being the victims of bullying as kids. This need to protect other betas from nastiness overriding their fandom might well come from a misguided idea that they’re protecting the players in a way they wish they had been when Fat Wayne from Bell Dean used to take their dinner money every day or break their NHS specs with a dimpled fist if they were potless. Bell Dean was more cut throat than the serengeti. Jay’s shop was like a beacon of hope set amongst the backdrop of a bleak stray dog infested concrete wastland. Then, like clockwork, a faint echo could be heard at precisely 6pm every weekday... “wayne!.... yer tea’s readehhh... wayne!... i won’t say it again... WAYNE!...”

I cant really think of anyone tbh. Summerbee? Too clever for our team was Summerbee. The number of times he’d beat his man only to find there was no one in the box to fire a cross into, so he’d he’d hold it up and try and beat his man again, only to fail, then the inevitable groans would come from the stands. He’s probably not the best judge, but if anyone we’re to ask Dean Windass who the best winger he’d ever played with, he’d pick out Summerbee every time.

I cant really think of anyone tbh. Omar Daley. I think Daley took a lot of stick for simply not being Jermaine Johnson.
He's another player to add to the list though, where the manager of the time would state that "he's the one player that scares opposition managers", yet when his contract was up it doesn't appear there was a mass queue for his signature. Another example is Law, where he was repeatedly defended for running the ball across the pitch to play a three yard pass and there he is, playing in League Two.
It would appear that neither were highly sort after not because they were scapegoats but because they weren't as good as some made out. Granted Law and probably Daley would get in to the current side.

I cant really think of anyone tbh. Benito Carbone under Jim Jeffries? A victim of the board wanting to force out the big earners rather than his performances. Always put a shift in.

Apparently Doyle's now a scapegoat too, despite missing sitter after sitter.

Apparently Doyle's now a scapegoat too, despite missing sitter after sitter. He's had a bit of unfair stick over some things including his ability to win the ball in the air (it's not his fault he's 3 inches too short to be a target man). The criticism of his finishing is absolutely fair though, he's missing a lot of chances and some of them are absolute sitters. Reminds me of the spell Billy Clarke had a couple of years ago.

I’d agree with that. Beni always put a shift in, did extra training and ran his knackers off every week. Then he wrote of a wedge of money to save the club.

I see there is statistical evidence on the other side proving that Chicksen is better than any other left back in the 92. Either that or I’ve not bothered to read it properly. Whatever, whilst it is said football is a game of opinions, anyone who tries to use stats, or reason, to suggest Chick is anything other than utter shite doesn’t deserve to have a platform to air their flat earth views.

Just went to read that. The latest in a seemingly never ending series of idiotic Butterfield posts. RCB politely debunks it in the thread. What point does citing team result stats in support of the the argument for the individual prove? Tawheed’s Bruenker posts sums it up - it’s a complete waste of Butterfield’s time and that of anyone who reads it. Where are the individual Chicksen stats? Tackles missed, passes gone astray, crosses attempted from his side vs that of Caddis? Let’s also not forget that, back in the days of the great Hanson arguments, Butterfield was the one who said that stats didn’t prove anything and assists as a whole were a ‘junk stat’. The guy is a verbose moron.

Read that too. Christ.
I don't understand the urge to defend pisspoor players. Chicksen isn't good enough and won't ever be good enough, which is why Brighton and Charlton couldn't wait to get shut.
It's not personal, I don't wish him ill- he's not Towie. But either he genuinely thinks he's good enough, in which case he needs to be booed until he learns that he isn't, or he knows he's not good enough, in which case he needs to leave. Ship up or ship off.
Speaking of Towie, I see he's been giving it large on Twitter. And still some of our fanbase thinks the lazy shameless cunt deserves another chance.

Stats are useful Chicksen has started in 16 games this season and he’s been dog shit in 15 of them and terrible in the other 1. But stop making him a scapegoat. It’s mean.

I don't understand the urge to defend pisspoor players. Welcome to Gomperland. It’s driven by some simple belief that supporters support anything and everything to do with the club regardless of whether or not it’s in the club’s interests. Wrap a dogshit in claret and amber and these fuckwitts will say it needs its own chant.

It’s just a shame nobody’s died.
