I mean, it wasn't atrocious but it was far from good. A performance like that 9 times out of 10 and we lose that game.

I spent most of the game yawning.

Positives... we got 3 points, Drysdale was very good, clean sheet.
Negatives... everything else.
That win changes nothing and Hughes is a terrible manager and needs to go.

I spent most of the game yawning. Your face when i saw you after the game said it all. Watching that shite felt like a 24 hour flight and the ensuing jet lag, if i'd had a pillow with me i'd had have put my head down and gone to sleep. I know results are important but FFS ts supposed to be an entertainment as well when you go to the football. Bastard cure for insomnia at the moment.

Shite wasn’t it.

We probably need 45 points to stay up and I’m not convinced we’re gonna win 15 games.

First game I've seen this season other than the odd bit on dodgy streams.
The Crewe side we played at the of last season would have been 2-3 up by half time. Any pace or moving the ball quickly like they did that night and we won't cope.
I said it was Bowyer-esque yesterday. That first half where defence had the ball and there was literally zero movement ahead of Kelly (I think) and he gesturing for it was like one of those games from 2019. At other times it looked like the defence were ordered not to go forward or pass forward at all, just like Bowyer had us.
The backward passing was mind numbing at times. Even when just getting rid was a good option we played ourselves into trouble by just fucking around on the ball.
Cook is being played in a way that makes him wasted and isolated and you'd never think he scored 30 last year. What the idea is for him only Hughes knows.
At least we didn't just sit on the lead all second half, though it still wasn't great.
Same problems as last year look like they're happening again - not enough goals, not enough composure or quality in front on goal. There's a very fine line though between a 1-0 for us or a home loss with that level of performance and if we're consistent with that then we're not challenging for the top 7.

It was mind numbingly defensive and truly depressing to watch. 3 centre backs with no passing options tells you it simply isn't working. We are set up to pass out from the back but to be fair to Crewe they were far better than us at it, simply lacking the threat in the final third to worry is. It also negates the best of other players such as Pattison and MacDonald. At times Pattison was deep in his own half and MacDonald in the oppositions, how the hell does that get the best out of them. Now I'm no football manager but if Hughes doesn't revert straight away to a back four I predict it will be the death of him at Valley Parade. If he does we might just make a go of it.

It’s no good asking the back 3 to play out from the back of the whole midfield hides and actively tells them not to pass to them (or gives them it straight back) as Smallwood does and Pattison/McDonald/Walker did yesterday. There was zero movement, either to receive the ball or make space for someone else. This is REALLY basic stuff.
The whole point of a patient build up is to pull the opposition out of position and create an overload somewhere in their half. There were times when Platt or Kelly had Cook, and a heavily marked Richard’s/Oyegoke to aim for, with a gaping empty chasm between those two options.
It’s FA level 2 stuff and the fact Hughes can’t see it is totally incomprehensible.

Macdonald and Small-wood should be sitting in front of that back 3 making themselves available. Each centre back should have 4 options for a close pass- The 2 holding midfielders, a full back and an adjacent centre back. Crewe were marking pretty well yesterday but there was also too much distance between the defence and midfield and not enough movement.

My mum watched it, "first half, if they'd have had pockets in their shorts, they'd have had theirs hands in them".
