What it says on the tin.
Don't know if its an age thing or what. But through the 90s and 00s, I was in my teens and 20s. Football was ace. Some of that period, we were actually a decent side and England had a couple of credible performances at tournaments, but even leaving that to one side, football seemed to be a really enjoyable thing. Whether it be going to games, watching games on the box, looking forward to specific games between the bigger teams in the country and Europe etc. It felt 'better' than it does now.
Now, all footballers seem like cunts, most managers and club owners seem to treat fans like cunts, many fans ARE cunts, more teams than not are simply shite to watch. It feels like its eating itself.
Is it just me? Am I getting a boring old cunt, or is football just a bit shit these days?

I agree with you. I have no interest in Premier League football, no interest in the national team and I doubt I'll be renewing my season ticket next year. The only thing keeping it interesting at the moment are the social media meltdowns.

Is it just me? Am I getting a boring old cunt, or is football just a bit shit these days? You must be! And I must be suffering from the same ailment as you! Despite having Sky, I rarely watch PL footie now, mainly because and despite their skills, I find it uninteresting to watch a set of prima donnas acting as they do. And I can't recall the last time I deliberately watched an England game and don't expect to be watching the World Cup whenever that is. Something has definitely changed and it may well be me and not the game itself. But I'd still go out of my way to watch certain cricket games and certain RU games. So maybe it's not me after all I was talking about this to my other half and she asked me when the season starts so we can plan a couple of things. I said I didn't even know and at the mo, I don't particularly care. She was very surprised with my response. And next season other things might well take priority over a visit to VP. Bloody hell, I've said it!

Feel the same. Used to be glued to the box for all the Super Sunday games. I don't even watch any Prem games now.
World Cup is next month, can barely muster any enthusiasm for it. Not just that England are shite but there are no superstars to enjoy watching - you're Ronaldo's (original), Bergkamp, Gullit, Scillachi, Batistuta, Henry, Zidane, Mattheus, Figo, Gazza etc. Overpaid average wankers will fill squads this year.
And City, I'm so apathetic it's untrue.
Maybe it is getting old (I'm only 35!) or the fact that City and England are shit and that the Premier League is constantly rubbed in our faces as being the best league in the world when in reality it's shit.
Plain old shit.

Football's always been about the crowds. The crowds have changed and it's all become more sanitised. It's dull nowadays.

It's the players. They don't give a shit anymore as they have money thrown at them from a young age. Playing for England doesn't matter, they'll still jump into their Ferrari after bombing out of the latest tournament. The FA Cup barely registers as the Premier League is where the money's at.
Turn in a good performance every few games, collect £200,000 per week and bollocks to everything and everyone.
A game played by wankers. Can't believe I subsidise it.

Yes, it's a bit shit. I think for me it's at least partly because I'm a jaded old bastard (I've seen it all before - the novelty's well and truly worn off) and maybe partly because football actually isn't as fun as it used to be.
I'm the same with music. There's very, very little now that comes even close to making me feel how I felt about music in my teens and twenties. Heard it all before. Jaded.
I'm barely even middle-aged. At this rate I'm going to need some new hobbies. I've never tried heroin or crack, that might be worth a go. It's either that or take up cycling.

The Leeds game in the league cup the other year was as much fun as I've had in a football ground since the 90s. And that was before we'd scored.

Best advice I can give you.

It is so withdrawn from everyday reality it is untrue, you have players like Theo fucking Walcott earning £100k's a week for what, running in a straight line really quickly? The guy thinks he's worthy of it too..terrible terrible footballer. This is only one example out of the 100's of others that have somehow managed to steal a living and the public are the ones that are expected to pay for it.
Add to this SKY and their transfer day deadlines, 24 hours sports channels regurgitating the same shit every 20 mins, Super Sunday's where you can guarantee the games are dull and they show a game pretty much every day of the week....it's oversaturation.

Yep. I can accept the richest teams have almost always been the most successful, in any country, but agree that so many relatively average players get signed for huge fees and are paid ludicrous amounts. Too many players can make an absolute fortune from just being squad players or reserves. At least some years back there was the financial risk, now teams are regularly bidding £50m, £60m and above every year, spending hundreds of millions every window with no consequence if it doesn't work. Was it Villas Boas who was used an example that after being fired from numerous jobs he'd actually made far more money from paid up contracts than actually winning trophies? It's like watching an alternate universe at times.
