I told you Gilliead wasn’t the problem in midfield. He stepped up today, I was very impressed with him. Covered loads of ground and put a right shift in. Fair play

I told you Gilliead wasn’t the problem in midfield. a man possessed today with that armband I thought he was immense. Midfield was fine until Hughes decided to replace East with Nevers, that sub alone cost us two points

Midfield was fine until Hughes decided to replace East with Nevers, that sub alone cost us two points I’m not and never have claimed Gilly is a world beater but he’s never been as bad as some claim, particularly since he was moved to the middle/off the wing. Chuffed to see him rise to the challenge as captain. Me and my lad were jokingly talking about the Gilliead Redemption Arc before the game but it would be genuinely ace if this was a turning point in his career.

I told you Gilliead wasn’t the problem in midfield. He was good today but one swallow and all that. Funny how everyone blamed Gilliead for our ills and yet we take out the other midfielder and he has his best game of the season. A lot of the time in football its not that a player is shite, far from it. More often than not its clueless managers playing them out of position with other players equally out of position. Like playing Gilliead as a deep lying defensive player and Smallwood as a set piece specialist. Like not playing your 16 goal (now 17) from the start. Its league 2, no one is a team of world beaters, i just wish managers would at least give them a chance by putting the round pegs in the round fucking holes.

It's easy to say Gilliead plays better without Smallwood but don't forget when Gilliead had a game off for his kid being born Smallwood had a great game against Salford too. Maybe we have the asda price Lampard vs Gerrard on our hands.

Gilliead was also playing in a better position for him - right of a diamond. If Clayton is the sitter, who would select Smallwood over Gilliead on the right? Hughes probably.

Didn't watch yesterday. Lots of dick sucking of Gillead it would seem. I take it he played in an attacking midfield role?
Didn't score or assist and we drew the game. What am I missing? Did he run round lots, yeah?

Did he run round lots, yeah? The lad played really well. I know he's an easy target but that was one of the best individual performances of the season. We ain't good enough to go up though, a lack of goal threat other than Cook kills us. On a positive Smallwood being unavailable forced Hughes hand to an extent otherwise i think he would have played him. Most balanced we've looked for a while, two up top caused problems. Don't think i've ever known a team fluctuate so badly between first and second half performances. 1st by 4 points to 18th respectively, what the fuck does he say to them at half time?

Only got ourselves to blame. Missed 3 clear cut chances and why Chapman didn’t square the ball when he had the chance I’ve no idea. You must have been too busy watching cricket to have noticed every game Chapman has participated in then. That's what he does.

Did he run round lots, yeah? I’m no fan of Gillead at all but credit where it’s due he was good on Saturday. He really should have had an assist too as he put someone (Eisa?) clean through and he was only denied by a good save. One performance isn’t about to change my opinion of him given it’s been formed over six hundred appearances over seven spells but I can’t knock him for Saturday.

He showed flashes whereas Gillead kept it up all game. What Clayton did do was a big upgrade on Smallwood for me. Much sharper on the turn and far more forward thinking. Donny fans reckoned his legs had gone but they’ve not gone as far as Smallwood’s.
