Could the right changes be afoot? Sounds like he’s just boasting about how great he’s gonna be.

I’ve done a 180 on it. Nothing is afoot, he’s just been given the same sales bullshit that Adams was given. We’re ambitious, see?

It has to work, doesn't it?
With the level of media exposure so far imagine if in 12-18 months we're struggling again and just had Halifax do the double over us, the media would then be scrutinising what's wrong at this club and might start opening some eyes and bringing some attention to what's going on.
MH has his own assistant in which is a positive.
Aside from that, how was this described by the club - a 'momentous day' or something? With the way it's been bigged up if we lose badly or continue the losing run it'll just look like another 'we don't accept mediocrity' statement.
But if MH can't change things or influence change at the club from those who can then what's left to do?

The club’s Twitter feed is in a masturbatory frenzy and is borderline patronising the club with its utter disbelief that a demigod like Mark Hughes would ever wash up on the litter strewn shores of our backwater club. It’s all well and good being starstruck at his name but if we don’t back him the name is all we’re left with and it’ll be about as much use as cash in an apocalypse. And if a man as deified as Mark Hughes can’t get the club moving then all it’ll do is illustrate just how hopeless the situation is. Either he gets backed or we’re wasting everyone’s time. Including that of Mark Hughes PBUH.

Why not just let Hughes get acclimatised at the club and allow him time to build his own squad. With the squad currently at his disposal I can't see anyone getting a tune out of it.

Including that of Mark Hughes PBUH. It just reeks of a decision made from a marketing perspective. Of course I want it do well - I'd love to have my complaints rammed down my throat. But I'm just wary there's some catch somewhere with this - probably the fact they're banking on this appointment to rescue the season ticket sales, and other than 'success' what is the longer term ambition for club? That answer may come in time - I know it's only been a few days - but success on the pitch without progress elsewhere only papers over the cracks again.

The next minute Sparks stumbles upon MH's application in his junk mail, squeals to himself like a starstruck giddy teenager and, before you know it, the Sky cameras are at VP as Hughes signs on the dotted line. Given Hughes wasn't even on the radar, i doesn't seem suggest much thought has gone into the appointment. I hope i'm wrong and there is a plan in place, but i'm not holding my breath

Either we back him or he works miracles under the same constraints that have hobbled all the others. The alternative is that this appointment could be the one that finally breaks us. Like Dick says above, Hughes fails and where do we go from there?

Yeah its been over egged, because the reality is, Hughes has a shite squad to work with for 15 games and can’t do a sodding thing about it. The PR machine should have been tempered back slightly for the summer, IF we have a proper go then.
My memory is hazy, but when Parky came in, despite having 90% of the season, access to free agents and a full window available to him (and loans), we didn’t big shit up, did we? Wasn’t the narrative much more along the lines of ‘this season is going to be tough, lets muck in together’, then the following season there was a big ST push and talk of ‘let’s go for promotion’. Felt much more realistic. Or am I remembering wrongly….?

Like Dick says above, Hughes fails and where do we go from there? This appointment has to come with some investment/spending - would MH really be attracted to the romantic prospect of having no budget and trying to turn players like Robinson and Delfounso into quality and having to put up with some of the transfer windows from recent years? I get the feeling it could be all or nothing with this - they've probably given themselves 2 years to turn us into a successful side and if that doesn't work then.....?

Usually if someone is at a game they don't need to be at then a fan of either team will get a photo, especially in this day and age. My initial negative reaction had waned a little but only due to Hughes remark suggesting something going on in the background. It is a coup really, it's not like he's been bouncing round the shitpool teams but I'm still not expecting miracles. But it's nice to see the gomperati quickly switching back as I was feeling bad that they'd actually realised we're a shitshow and a lot were struggling with it. At least they've had a few days of happiness this week

I'd love it to work, sick to the back teeth of this football club perennially failing and being a laughing stock. You'd think that with the amount of managers that come and go, one has got to work eventually.
However, outside of the hype, I'm thinking that Hughes could just be this year's Grayson. Arrives with a decent reputation but quickly discovers that underneath the decaying husk of a stadium and relatively large fan base, the club's strictly an amateur operation. He'll be gone within a year and little will have changed. My only hope is that should this manager fail, the support might finally wake up to the fact that without a change in ownership, the club will continue to struggle.
They must've at least told Hughes that funds will be available in the summer, I'm willing to suspend my disbelief until August, but it's in hope rather than expectation.

I remember how the the gomperati rallied around Edin following the Grayson 'coup' given his stock was still relatively high. At the very least he was seen as a 'league one promotion specialist' despite his failiure at Sunderland. The trouble is many managers see us as a 'free it'. If they fail they can just blame 'issues at the club' and escape with a nice payoff and reputation still relatively in tact. A bit like a lower league Spurs or Man Utd.

They must've at least told Hughes that funds will be available in the summer, I'm willing to suspend my disbelief until August, but it's in hope rather than expectation. I’m not convinced they have. Hughes’ quotes indicate that he felt it was time to get back in along with the usual spiel about the size of the club and fanbase etc. The club have said that they were surprised to get an application from a manager of his stature and jumped at the chance to appoint him. To me it sounds like a case of Hughes wanting to get out of the house and the club blowing a load in their y-fronts when his email turned up in spam. I’m worried that’s the limit of the consideration given to the appointment by both sides.
