It reminded me of the first home game when McCall first became the manager, versus Macclesfield I think. High expectations and a tangible belief across most of the support that 'we're going to walk this league'. Only to find that the division was far trickier than we thought and the squad wasn't particularly strong. Oldham are far from a fancied team, but City struggled to break them down and were second best for large parts in midfield. I understand that Sparks is primarily a marketing man and since he took the reigns, this area of the club has certainly improved. But his messaging about how the club 'doesn't work in this league' and how Adams has been brought in for one thing; promotion, has lead many supporters to believe that the club is definitely going up this season. Unfortunately, the recruitment hasn't matched the marketing and messaging, IMO at least. I don't think they're a massively different side from last season. There's still a lack of both goals and creativity. Angol looked busy, but lacked a finish. I hope they can build and become a difficult side to beat, which looks like what DA's after, but I'm struggling to see the team that played yesterday making a concerted push for an automatic place. As it stands, I don't think the advertising truly reflects the quality of the product. Sparks might be guilty of over selling but under delivering, when push comes to shove. I don't think we struggled to break them down at all.. We struggled to take the chances we created, but we got through their backline on multiple occasions whilst limiting them to playing it wide and letting their wingers fuck it up all on their own

This league is dogshit. Pretty much the same squad won nine or ten on the bounce last year when they could be arsed. And one thing Adams has always been good at is making sure his players can be arsed.
What we need in this league is to wait for a mistake and take the chances. We had plenty on Saturday and missed them. That worries me still.

Yet fuck all has been done about it. The league’s shit but with a little bit of investment we could piss it, for all Sparksy makes the right noises about being self sufficient which I totally agree with, a little bit of investment from Rupp to sign a quality midfielder and striker would tip the balance in favour of promotion and help Stefan sell the club eventually get his money back. Sparks has done a lot of good but I think this is short sighted and naive.

It’s been said before that Adams relies on creating good chances rather than lots of chances and we need to be clinical in front on goal which on showings so far we aren’t and it will hold us back.
A clinical striker even at league two level would have buried those 1v1s that Angol missed on Saturday. He showed no composure with either.

Problem I can see down the line is we don't have the quality of Mendes Gomez or Stockton that Adams had at Morecambe.

Cook is much better in front of goal so hopefully the chances will fall his way.
