The rebuild job was far too big to do in 1 window. T&S have no options on the bench to change anything, can't blame them they have saved us from going down and we were going down.

Why do we keep hiring managers who have no idea how to coach a team to attack?

It's literally bowyerball again. Turgid is a good word. I've never seen a slower and more indecisive pacy forward line in my life.

The worrying thing is the lack of predictability. The constant reliance on a system which isn’t currently working, alongside the same substitutions week in week out must make an opposition manager’s job easy. This is a big worry. The slavish devotion to a formation that relies on a quality number ten when we only have one is suicidal. Pick the formation to suit the available personnel instead of shoehorning personnel into a preferred formation. Everyone looks down their noses at 4-4-2 devotees but if that’s what suits the players available then go with it. Same goes for any other formation. We don’t have anyone to fill Cooke’s boots so stop trying.

Also worrying is the lack of anything from either Crankshaw or Vernam.

Sitting back against Oldham at home is not a good look. Imagine fans in the stadium today? Christ.

We don’t have anyone to fill Cooke’s boots so stop trying. We miss Cooke absolutely, he's pivotal for this formation but the lack of a real midfielder is why we're struggling so much. Cooke did everything and he shouldn't have to had done it all. He was always dropping deeper to help out he was constantly covering for wingers going out of position. We relied upon 2 young players to sit in front of the defence together that should never have happened. Neither can tackle particularly well neither can pass very well and neither can break up play very well. It's no surprise Paudie has so many yellows having to take men down after they have skipped past them so many times. We're too busy digging these 2 out when an accomplished midfielder would have given both players someone to learn from, help with fatigue and not burn Cooke out by stopping him covering so much ground every game. For all the back slapping and ego stroking that came after January it's clear as day it's nowhere near enough. Vernam Crankshaw and Rowe have all dropped dramatically in form after their first 3 games. For me we need 3 new full backs 2 new cms 3 new strikers back up for Cooke and they have to be better than we have now

Crankshaw and Vernam in particular have been disappointing recently after initially looking like very exciting signings.

Crankshaw and Vernam in particular have been disappointing recently after initially looking like very exciting signings. its because they spend more time defending than attacking. Fuck all movement infront of them and Vernam in particular has played everywhere but his favoured left wing position.

Fuck all movement infront of them and Vernam in particular has played everywhere but his favoured left wing position. I thought he was left sided. I had the initial idea that these lads were keeping it simple and playing players in their most natural roles instead of tinkering. Is tinkering just a natural progression for coaches? I think it would help Wood to have a settled partner down his side. This formation has been good when Cooke was in the team but if he or Clarke are not available to play as the 'number 10' then surely we have to play what suits us. Today should have been 442, Vernam left, Evans right, Lowe and Cook up front.

I’m usually highly critical of the Deputy Gomper-in-Chief, but McKeown’s article in tonight’s WoaP article is bang on.

We're not getting relegated, there's a small chance we could make the playoff's, but the main objective needs to be getting the punters excited for next season and looking to sell season tickets.
These two channelling their inner Gary Bowyer's aint gonna do em any favours.

I’m usually highly critical of the Deputy Gomper-in-Chief, but McKeown’s article in tonight’s WoaP article is bang on. The bit about lack of end product from Crankshaw and Vernham in particular. It's still only 10 games or so and they aren't at DMH levels, but its clear their lack of output was glossed over by the fact we were sneaking wins. When we lose or draw a few games in a few it's glaringly obvious.

I don’t mind losing to stupid mistakes, I don’t mind losing (occasionally) to an off day and I don’t mind drawing 0-0 when we’ve had a go.
That yesterday wasn’t having a go and then it was compounded by T&S saying that the objective was to not lose. Anybody remember Mickey Love coming out with naive statements during his time?
They need to learn that very quickly as it will not wash for very long. It will be even less tolerated next season when anything short of promotion is going to be seen as failure by many.
I aren’t saying get rid of these two, they do need a chance but maybe yesterday was a little glimpse into the future of what might happen when the chips are down?

I aren’t saying get rid of these two, they do need a chance but maybe yesterday was a little glimpse into the future of what might happen when the chips are down? Indeed. Build up play is fine but it needs to build up to something... too often we conceded possession from passing triangles because of poor passing, not that we were under pressure. And there were plenty of occasions, but I remember 2 where we attacking in the space between the box and touchline and we ended up going all the way to the keeper. T&S cannot set us up in a 'not to lose' approach so much that players are instructed to go backwards instead of taking the risk of taking on a defender 1 on 1. Overplaying the ball and slowing our own attacking play down has been more obvious over the last month, and when we do create there's never a second or third phase of sustained attack, it the one shot, pass or cross into the box which may result in a corner - and we know how good they are. It's not like we've come off bad losing run or a really bad defeat when it is permissable - it was at home to bloody Oldham. Imagine going back to the keeper from an attack when we've got 17,000 in the place and attacking the Kop.

Cashed out my promotion bet for a £7 loss. Not this year but with a bit of tinkering next year looks good. We’d have to take the fucking handbrake off though. I’m sick to fuck of overly cautious football. Given the players and no excuses I really want to see us start waving our cocks for once.
