Conflicted with this one. Prolific in non league, did well in league 1 a few years ago but hasn’t done anything of note recently. I can accept that he’s probably streets ahead of Guthrie, Samuels and Donaldson but in a weird sort of way therein lies the issue. We’ve done a brilliant job at strengthening the bench this transfer window but 7 signings in and that starting 11 is almost identical to what it was pre January.

2 prolific non league scorers who are 30 and 32 (on Friday) and the completely unproven Burell.
None of them say long term or future investment potential, more a case of get by this season and try to invest again in the summer.
Novak's, Clarke's and Donaldson's contracts are all up in the summer as well.

Unfortunately it looks like it’s the only bit of first team strengthening we’ve done (and are going to do) this window.

I think cook will be decent back up to Rowe and will give us flexibility to go 442 if needed but you're right Rowe is the only one who will make a difference. Hopefully there's an attacking left winger and another midfielder good enough to push others to the bench to come in.

Aside from Rowe, I can't see any of the others troubling the first eleven. I think Cook will be OK and as you say better than what we had in 2020 (Novak aside). I thin we needed somebody different up front and would have been happy with McAleny. That ship has sailed now.

It hasn't sailed, people keep thinking he's a striker, he isn't he's a left winger who can play up front. I personally don't think he will come but I wouldn't be surprised if the club are still trying

But in fairness he's definitely stood out as something we needed in just the the 2 games he's played so far. Fancy that - actually bringing in a type of striker with qualities we were lacking in. I'm probably just too used to used going for our 7th-8th choice / bargain bin on the last day approach rather than thinking we will identify targets with attributes we need.

Hughes dropped him for quite a few games and he only got back in the first eleven after a couple of scoring sub appearances. Carried us this season and his manager doesn't really rate him.
