Even yesterday you'd see something good and you'd know that there was going to be something shit along any second. Like one of the Gerry's beating Lucy Bronze (again) and driving in to the box before shooting tamely at the keeper. But then you realise that they're playing the numbers game, in women's football get the shot on target and you've a statistically much higher chance of scoring as statistically odds on the keeper is gonna be shite. Apologies if this comes across as sexist or if you're Katie Whyatt.

Apologies if this comes across as sexist or if you're Katie Whyatt. I see what you mean, woman's football has a bit more of a spontaneous, dare i say amateur, feel to it. But i did enjoy the game yesterday, the intensity and focus seemed a cut above the norm. I don't think it helps when you get deluded happy clappy commentators and pundits pretending its on a par with elite men's football, when it just isn't (yet). But i think the gap is closing. Like anything money talks and extra investment will encourage more participation/ better coaching at grass roots and hopefully lead to a bigger pool of talent in the future.

Couldn’t give a tuppenny fuck. Same. If England won in Cricket, Rugby etc I couldn't give a fuck. Same with England Woman's team. It's nothing to do with the fact they have fannies, I'm just not interested in it so I couldn't give a shiny shite.

Nah it was horse shit.
I could get me plus 10 mates from our 5 a side group and we’d walk the womens euros.
Whilst holding down full time jobs and living off a diet of kfc and dominos.

Couldn’t give a tuppenny fuck. Me neither. No interest. And whilst they deserve recognition and celebration for a fantastic achievement in their sport, they haven't 'brought it home'. Fuck right off with that.

Worlds sexiest footballer? I think Kia Brunker might have something to say about that.
In any case, these people are serious athletes and dedicated pros. So just show a bit of damn respect, OK?

Some of them are annoying, it sometimes feels like tokenism to have a female pundit/presenter on every programme. But are they seriously any worse than Lawrenson, Crooks, Jenas, Murphy??
Imagine choosing this hill to die on.

Football club uses attractive blonde woman to promote itself on its official social media page. Never happened in my day, place has gone to the dogs, etc etc.

As for TV coverage, I’ve no issue with female presenters and female commentators.
Pundits? Tough one. The men’s and women’s games ARE different. Alex Scott hasn’t played the men’s game. But then again men’s football in the 80s and 90s was very different and the likes of Barton don’t seem to give a shit about the likes of Garth Crooks or Andy Townsend sharing their “wisdom”. Crooks has been retired for 33 years, Townsend for 23, but they’re more qualified than Alex Scott? Fuck off.

I think for a lot of us who probably grew up watching Match of the Day, Sky Sports and the other channels and radio stations in the 80s, 90s and 00s, an element of punditry was related to male culture. A bunch of blokes sat down talking football, always a couple of pisstakers ribbing each other... then stick some women in there and some don't like it. I don't mean they have to be like Keyes and Gray, but football aside, there's that relatable bloke behaviour men look to. It's like when we watched Welcome to Wrexham. Wife couldn't believe how much swearing there was in and around the dressing room and asked me why they do it. All I could say was it's for emphasis, showing dominance when done in a certian way and managers want people to react to it and not shy away. I used to be a prop forward for local union side and it was the same thing. I don't explain it, other than it's a man thing, male behaviour that is something of a natural instinct. To be competitive and aggressive, and we don't women involved in it. It is an erosion of a particular male culture which a lot of don't want. They think it belongs to them and the women shouldn't be involved. Like you say though, there's some genuinely terrible pundits who have been part of the furniture on some channels for decades because they can't get a gig anywhere else.

Never seemed to get the stick then, but I suppose the 90s were all about the girls swearing, shagging, and sinking pints with the boys. I think Barton’s really just pissed off that the likes of Alex Scott know more than he does.

I think Barton’s really just pissed off that the likes of Alex Scott know more than he does. Yep. She was genuinely a lower league fan which resonated with a lot of viewers. She wasn't desperately trying to be a 90's lad or anything, she was part of the fan culture at the time. Then you had the Socerettes which did become cringe in the end. Bunch of middle aged blokes going "Phwoar' to a 17 year old, yeah, that didn't age well... It part of Barton's overally identity though. His brother is a racist murderer who he tries to make excuses for, his own behaviour as a player was awful, and his attitude and the way he gives it here just personifies him completely. Pissed off at her knowing more, definitely - and getting 139 more England caps that he did.
