After reading this brave and inspiring tweet by Katie Whyatt, i embarked on a period of reflection.
I concluded my male privilege was colouring my view of professional female football.
To atone, i felt it only right and proper that i should start a thread to heighten awareness of the womens' game...

Fair fucks, played well in the final. Can see some of the women's teams getting bigger crowds than some championship clubs in the future.

Fair fucks, played well in the final. Can see some of the women's teams getting bigger crowds than some championship clubs in the future. Yep. I put on the twitter the red card from our game yesterday has 3,000,000+ views - from one account alone. A lot of people are ridiculing the player and the mens sport overall as it's not the first time it's happened. And the weekend of the women's final. Some people love the pantomime. I don't. I'd rather watch some actual football regardless of skill or even another sport where something actually happens. It's dire and sums up a big chunk of the men's game while at the same time a lot of praise is being heaped on the women's game for not following it down the same route.

I’m no champion of the womens game but equally I’ve no desire to knock it.
That game tonight had skill, bravery, physicality, everything you get in the mens game but from slightly smaller players.
The pass and finish for the first goal were sublime. Well done lasses.
Also shout out to Jill Scott (thought she’d retired years ago) for her “fuck off you fucking prick” after being fouled.

It's depressing that the top female players in England earn less than what Gareth fucking Evans was pulling in from us. I hope that changes. The women's game isn't so different from the men's, mind, the Spanish side in the QF shithoused with the best of the men.

I felt game had a real edge and intensity to it... more akin to men's football. The first goal was very well taken, perfectly timed shot. The way she dinked it over the keeper and floated it in while under pressure was genuinley impressive. If only our (as in city's) strikers were so cool and composed under pressure. The amount of diving from both teams was a little disappointing as women's football is often hailed for being more 'honest'. But i guess thats unavoidable when the stakes are so high. Hopefully this win will trigger more investment, higher attendances, higher participation at grass roots... and hopefully help close the gap with men's football.
