If we can't get out of this division as one of the three teams in the automatic places then we might as well pack it all in and disband the club. Seriously, look at the fucking state of that line up. i get that Bolton and possibly Salford with their spending power will be two of the clubs to get two of the three spots but FFS look at whats left.

Problem is not enough share that sentiment. Too many people within the club and in the stands look at that and see it as our natural habitat.
There’s not likely to be an inherent desire to move out of somewhere you feel you belong.

There's a fear of expectation, a fear of any kind of ambition or demand (and I wouldn't even call it a demand - fans weren't exactly protesting en masse about Rahic were they?).
I don't know what it stems from - permanent financial trouble in the past and so the fear of financial commitment in the future? The fire, in the sense that it put everything into perspective and is a permanent reminder of life being more important than football? The typical Bradfordian attitude of while the city has been on its arse for 20 years they can't see anything wrong with it?
Its like a badge of honour we wear with the most stoic pride, and we're happy to place our plan for success in hope and faith rather than anything tangible.

To put our 2017 play-off loss in some context, Millwall this season played the likes of Leeds, West Brom etc. At the same time in 2017 Harrogate were playing the likes of Curzon Ashton, Fylde and Solihull Motors. I suppose we should be grateful we have a club to support, we could be Bury.

Jesus, what a cuck.
We spend more time worrying about others being okay and 'disrespecting' them than the state of our own club.
Is it possible to have more ambition for other teams than your own? All the backslapping and congratulating of others - not just Harrogate - its like trying to justify our own failings by being so nice to others. If (when) Harrogate overtake us - probably with a league double over us in the process - there may be some satisfaction amongst these sorts we were a part of their success.

There’s nothing about this club that’s geared up to be a championship side, otherwise we’d be one. The size of the city and its floating fan base could very well sustain a well run championship club, but that’s very different to saying ‘everything is geared up for us to be championship club’. Training facility? We share it with a school. Ground? We rent one and its very much in need of modernising when it comes to the facilities. Pitch? Non League standard. Scouting? Who’s the gaffer worked with before. Recruitment? Lol. Everything about the club, from top to bottom, is geared up for it to be a plodding League 1/2 outfit, which is what we are.

I agree, our setup is nowhere near championship standard. You could argue that we aren't even at the same level as a competently run lower league club. People just assume "big city, big ground, big fanbase" therefore we should be in the championship. The 'big ground' is just a legacy of Richmond's ego. The main stand and NWC extension was a post premier league a white elephant that barely got used un till the 2013 cup run. Now we rely and cheap season tickets to create artificial demand. Even then the ground is barely half full. I don't even think our away following is all that. Baring the odd local derby or high profile away day, we don't have a 'big club' travelling army.

The main attitude is just to exist, survive, be somewhere to meet your mates or drag your kid along to.
There's no competitive nature at all. Like when you were at school or at work and on a Monday you heard how everyones' teams did over the weekend, with a bit of ribbing as well. And usually we were always the brunt of the jokes and the runt of the litter compared to the others.
No desire for us to be swinging our dick and smack everyone in the face with it.
And then you have those like Ian "if I call you Simon will you tell me more?" Hemmens who just swipe down the frustrations, the pleading for ambition, a plan, a goal, a strategy with a label of 'entitlement'.
Yeah, we all want success and it just doesn't appear out of nothing. But we seem to be set up like a non-league club in many ways.
Is it unfair to just ask that some things aren't? Especially as we all thought this would be covered off when the club was sold to the Germans.

I feel like the part about the city as a whole just being one massive underachiever sums up a lot of my feelings on the topic. I don't think many people realise how big Bradford actually is and then when you compare it to the city's actual 'status' on a nationwide scale - in terms of population it's bigger than Liverpool, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Cardiff and pretty much equal in size to the city of Manchester (granted if you included all of Greater Manchester it skews the numbers a bit) and yet we just seem to have so little about the city that's particularly notable. It pretty much sums it up that when you speak to anybody about where you're from, they're clueless up until the point that you begrudgingly just have to settle on "it's near Leeds". I know being a big city doesn't give us any divine right to anything but you can't help but get the feeling when you look at everything within Bradford that it should be so much more than what it actually is and I don't think the fact that the city has historically underachieved for a long time should be an easy let off for that, if anything it should fuel the desire to be a little bit more. I know being next door to Leeds doesn't help but we've just sort of come to accept our status as Leeds' little brother in every regard and that that's just the way it is.

All credit to Harrogate Town for getting into the league. Nobody is disrespecting them at all. I am genuinely pleased for them. We just shouldn't be playing them except to dish out a bumming in the cup.
Bradford City should, at worst, be a lower Championship/top 6 League One club. The top of the Championship is probably beyond us without some serious cash investment these days, at least until Covid makes the arse fall out of the Championship. But look at Rotherham, see what they achieve. It's not unrealistic to say we should achieve that too.
In League Two we should be walking it, dishing out spanking to all and sundry. Instead you know that we'll lose at home to Harrogate and Barrow, and the usual sadsacks will be saying that there's no easy games and criticising the team shows entitlement and disrespect.
I wouldn't mind being Leeds' little brother, Leeds United have a great history in the game, much as I hate the fuckers. The problem is we don't act like their little brother, we act like we're all at public school and we're their fag.
