He's also performed at the BBC Proms As wanky as jazz. And that's pretty fucking wanky. You know me, I like my smelly Rios rocker music and everything else is shit. But I don't mind people who play instruments in unusual ways

The Roy Chubby Brown being cancelled in Sheffield takes another turn - the Council leader there says he welcomes the show cancellation www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-south-yorkshire-58488864I don't find him funny, I don't particularly like him or his take on humour. But... this is a dangerous road to go down - like sportsmen, a whole load of comedians may find their social history / back catalogue trawled through in the attempt to find something to shut them down with. Chubby Brown may be the first, then who next? Oh, someone does mother-in-law jokes? Well they can be sexist. Or someone who does the jokes about obese people on mobility scooters - that's discrimination. Why are people on the prowl to shut others down so venomously? I agree with the idea that they do it so they can boast about it. Imagine being the person(s) who can say they got Roy Chubby Brown cancelled and publicly reprimanded. They'll love it. At the same time, in a way its' not dissimilar to Nazi Germany, the hounding down / shutting down of anyone with opposing views or beliefs, but done from the absolute opposite end of the political spectrum. I work in the public sector and a couple of our directors have got a bee in the bonnet with diversity / inclusivity - but not in a good way. A patronising, condescending, middle-aged, out-of-touch white senior manager way of interpreting what must be done. Last week they have demanded all hiring managers such as myself target more 'diverse organisations' when we put out job ads and we must ensure we reach out to diverse candidates. Thing is, the last job role I put out, the personal details of all but 2 candidates were anonymised, and we have zero budget for recruitment - its a case of put on our website, social media and ask partners to share - there isn't a penny to pay for anything else.

My gf works in a very posh, very white industry, but also very lefty liberal. They really want to encourage diversity to give them a broader spectrum of opinions and experiences. Now I’m woke af, as you probably know, and totally support that aim and think the rationale behind it is solid. My big problem is that they always try to address the fact that they’re really white, and not the fact that they’re really posh. So they end up hiring the same lefty oxbridge grads, who are posh and white as fuck. I feel like there’s an overemphasis on race and gender in a lot of left leaning organisations, and a complete blind spot on class which has been the big dividing factor in this country for the best part of a thousand years. I can understand why; protected characteristics are enshrined in law, but I sometimes wonder if they addressed class, they might also address a lot of the other characteristics? Chubby browns a downward punching dick. And also Godwin’s law.

Owner of venue decides they don't want to accommodate a show they disagree with, so they choose not to accommodate a show they disagree with.
Freedom works both ways.
As for "cancel culture", The Sun have just trawled through left-wing comedian Janey Godley's tweets from 10 years ago and got her sacked. But I thought they hated it when people, er, trawled through old tweets to get people sacked.

My wife lights joss sticks all over the house. I run the tips under the tap and she can’t understand why they keep going out and why they’re so difficult to relight.

(Hope I didn't hurt your feeling) This doesn’t count, it’s some pissy little internet backwater that nobody reads. It’s not like Twitter where snitches run riot and, also unlike here, it’s not barely moderated but is policed by the actual police. Look at this rash of people being pulled up for Tweets that are years old. Even shit you said when you were halfway to a different person is used to hang you. I just can’t see the benefit of taking part and if there are any benefits there’s no way they outweigh the pitfalls.
