Is there anyone else bored to fuck of this thread? Just cock measuring bollocks. I thought cock measuring was the raison d'etre of the cow's arse? Its this corona shite, all these endless graphs and stuff. On our twitter feed we follow some the most boring cunts on the planet, that Hector Drummond fella and Alistair Haimes to name but two, its not just them i guess its what twitter is, the same people regurgitating the same shite over and over. On the other side of the argument are posters like Rachel Clarke who posts as doctor oxford or that batshit crazy rachel swindon, every fucking post they do is the same incessant shite. Twitter is great for a laugh but is also very painful, i read less and less on there now.

I had to be admitted to A&E at the BRI over the New Year period - all checked out OK, but I had some weird symptoms, chest pains, shortness of breath.
Anyway, was admitted to A&E, seen by a triage nurse, had my blood pressure and bloody oxygen checked, an ECG, checked by 2 different doctors and discharged within 90 minutes. Didn't strike me that they were unable to cope or turning away non-Covid stuff.

Twitter is great for a laugh but is also very painful, i read less and less on there now. The problem is any cunt post out of context stats or cherry pick which 'experts' they need to quote. Socail media has just become one big battle royale fueled by bots, trolls, emotionally unstable adult toddlers, attention seeking blue ticks and corporate entities desperate to drive 'engagement' by triggering aforementioned groups. It will only get worse now lockdowns have made the internet the primary means of discourse. The other day i watched a youtube clip of a TV debate from the 70s (i think it was about the common market). The difference between then and now is like night and day. People on both sides were polite, articulate, informed, respectful, well mannered. Contrast with now and you just get obnoxious gobby activists, grifters and plastic virtue signalling politicians talking shite on QT. Most of which have just been shat out of the university system with barely an honest day's work between them. I think twitter and FB have peaked. I know a few people who've deleted FB altogether. Many are migrating to private messaging apps like telegram and signal. Twitter will regret banning Trump and purging the populist right. The big tech cartel helped them by taking down rival platform Parler, but 'Trumpers' will migrate once a viable alternative is available.

You know all those people who can't get cancer treatment? They can't get cancer treatment because Covid has swallowed up the hospital capacity. It is much worse than a bad flu year. You have proof of this? Anecdotal evidence and your opinion don't count.

There is an issue with NHS capacity at the moment. But that's not exactly unusual. Some areas have more capacity than others. There was talk of London hospitals sending patients to Yorkshire a few weeks back as we were doing OK capacity-wise but they were overstretched (which would explain why 147 didn't experience an overstretched NHS when he went to BRI - there are regional variations) but I've not heard if this has actually happened yet. Sending patients to hospitals in another area isn't unusual for the NHS in winter when there are viruses doing the rounds, but it is a bit unusual to consider sending them so far away. When hospitals reach capacity, as well as shifting patients elsewhere you have the issue that waiting times increase - they respond to an increase in patients who need admission due to outbreaks of viral infection by doing things like cancelling planned operations. See e.g. www.kingsfund.org.uk/publications/nhs-hospital-bed-numbers?gclid=CjwKCAiAr6-ABhAfEiwADO4sfRHbbr2GkYbhl1q0aqkAHzKcVLTz9dCiZYziza4lAEqDdL0rKkASbRoCSuAQAvD_BwE

A year into the pandemic, the Government is considering enforced quarantine for international travellers. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-55774380At the start of the pandemic, we had a brief period where we were asking people to quarantine (but not checking whether anyone was actually bothering to do so) if they were coming from an area known to have high levels of infection (and not even asking people from areas with lower levels to do so). In mid-March, we abandoned that inadequate policy and went with a new policy of not bothering with any restrictions on international travellers at all. Our policy on international travel has been pretty bad, though admittedly not as nuts as our policy of sending patients with covid into care homes. Looks like Priti Patel wanted to close our borders but got overruled: www.leicestermercury.co.uk/news/uk-world-news/home-secretary-priti-patel-says-4907774

You have proof of this? Anecdotal evidence and your opinion don't count. Yes, see the wide and varied research from the Kings Fund: www.kingsfund.org.uk/press/press-releases/nhs-now-under-most-extreme-pressure-seen-recent-history. This is dated 14 Jan. "waits for routine care have rapidly ballooned, with 192,000 people waiting over a year for care compared to just 1,400 this time last year. But this is only part of the problem. Last week, more than 3,700 patients had to wait 12 hours or more in A&E before being admitted to hospital – the highest number since current records began, and even urgent operations are being cancelled in some parts of the country." It is boring now though. Anyone who looks at the UK and doesn't think there's a massive problem is never going to be convinced.

But if you weren't constantly being told that there was a pandemic would you even know?
And if you weren't constantly spoon fed stats about the NHS being overwhelmed would you have noticed?
If both the above were actually 100% correct we'd know about it. Boy would we know about it....

Dunno about you but I don’t interact with the NHS enough to form an opinion. I’d have noticed not being in the office and the pubs being shut though.

I'm going to put the obvious stuff out of the way first: where I live has a population of 83,000, it has one airport and, unless you come in by fucking jetski, it has one passenger sea port.
But my experience here is definitely that enforced quarantine, strict border controls, and testing and contact tracing systems that work make a lot of difference. Since June we've had no social distancing rules at all. We went into lockdown on 6 January because of a community cluster, the people involved have all been traced and quarantined and so- fingers crossed- we come out of lockdown again on Monday. And by come out of lockdown I mean fully, domestically at least- we go back to no social distancing rules at all.
I know it's easier on a small island than on a big island. But still. Look at Australia and New Zealand, Australia having a crowd of 52,000 for the State of Origin game in Brisbane just before Christmas. I really can't believe just how bad the UK's response has been.
It's shite not being able to leave the island without having to quarantine for two weeks when we get back. But on the other hand we still have a functioning retail and hospitality sector and business was booming over Christmas.
