Completely consistent with the sinister agenda that sits behind the whole thing.

The social media thing isn't about stopping individuals talking about it, it's to stop social media companies taking money advertising it.
Some of the adverts I get served on Facebook are a fucking disgrace and it needs to stop. And pretty much every advert I see on Instagram these days is some sort of scam, usually a Forex or Bitcoin related Ponzi scheme.

The law mooted refers to removal of ‘content’, there’s no mention of specifically targeting adverts or anything to do with monetisation. It’s no great leap of the imagination to conclude that it’ll be a bit more sweeping and involve peoples posting. Besides which, it’s the old thin end of the wedge argument. I really envy the Americans and their constitution and fully understand why they defend it so doggedly.

I’m starting to get why they cherish the 2nd amendment.

I really envy the Americans and their constitution and fully understand why they defend it so doggedly. It's a stupid badly thought out proposal and I agree with any argument about freedom of speech. But my God, some of the stuff Facebook serves up to me as sponsored content is horrendous, and there's no way advertising falls under freedom of speech. But yes, we know badly thought out laws get exploited, which is why the police end up sticking their trotters in when someone is a bit mean on Twitter.

Harsher tiers after the national lockdown can surely only mean one of two things: Lockdowns don’t work, in which case why are we doing it.
The national one wasn’t enough, in which case why are we easing off at all?

The national one wasn’t enough, in which case why are we easing off at all? Either that or they’re moving the goalposts as to what qualifies for what tier. I saw the other day that to qualify for Tier 1 cases would have to be <100/100k. If that’s the case (and I’ll be honest I haven’t looked) then there’ll arguably never be an end to this shitty tier system.
