Why do we absolutely have to have a vaccine for this particular epidemic? How have we gone from ‘flatten the curve to save the NHS’ to no return to normal until we have a vaccine?

I would’ve thought it’s to protect the smaller businesses in the high street, isn’t it? I don’t really agree with it, but I see the intention.

True.
You can't just "decide" that something works and bring it in. To prove mask efficacy there would need to be hundreds of trials in real world settings. Assumptions would need to be made about the general public (scum) and how they would actually use them.
The whole thing is a farce and will prove counter productive.
And who is going to be brave enough to stop the madness now? Any minor uptick in the curve and it'll be down to masks being removed too soon. Evidence won't be required.

NHS staff getting a vaccine soon. Not sure I'd want it.

NHS staff getting a vaccine soon. Not sure I'd want it. In truth very few of us would need it.

You wouldn't need hundreds of trials - a couple of large, high-quality trials would be sufficient. As far as I can tell though, we don't even have one yet. This: www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736%2820%2931142-9/fulltext has a summary of the evidence currently available, which is all observational/comparative to date. There are two trials into use of face masks registered at clinicaltrials.gov but one hadn't even started last time I looked and the other started in April but still hasn't reported results: clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT04337541

NHS staff getting a vaccine soon. Not sure I'd want it. Would you not have it once it's been through the phase 3 trials?

NHS staff getting a vaccine soon. Not sure I'd want it. Would you not have it once it's been through the phase 3 trials? I'm not sure. I'm not anti vaccinations; my kids have had them all. Me son also has the flu jab every year due to a medical condition. Does everyone need to have it or should it be those most vulnerable as with the flu jab? Most people seem to get it and fight it off quite naturally.

They should definitely prioritise the most vulnerable, but it still makes sense to get vaccinated even if you're not in that category if the phase 3 results are good. Covid can be pretty unpleasant even if it's not going to kill you. I've had flu twice, when I was about 20 and again around 40. First time round I was sick as a dog for a few days then got over it but the second time it really battered me. Ever since then I've gone to Boots and paid £12 or whatever it is for the vaccine.
