I'm all for VAR and thought the world cup was a great show of how good it would be for the game. I want the right decisions for the game but if there's one thing the fa and premier league is good at its fucking things up. Our refs are shit and they're even fucking up the obvious now. Got to bin it off until we get competent people to run it

They're making a complete balls of it. Impossible to scrap it mid season though.

Predictably it’s being relied on too heavily. It was supposed to remove the howlers but it’s ended up reffing the game.

Predictably it’s being relied on too heavily. It was supposed to remove the howlers but it’s ended up reffing the game. Its become farcical now. Players yesterday in the Everton Spurs game were looking for penalties going on the now perceived VAR basis that any contact can result in a penalty. Even the shout for handball on Dele Alli, would never be given pre VAR days now because of the directives from fifa you're holding your breath as to whether it will be given. And then the sending off, its clear they've not thought this through at all. Still, at least it could have a good outcome and turn people away from the top flight. Which lets face it, has already become sanitised beyond recognition and had all the fun hoovered out of it.

It’s got to be a challenge system like the tennis.

It’s got to be a challenge system like the tennis. That might finally find a use for captains.

I'd simplify its use right down to:
Goal line technology - works like a charm
30 sec review on yellow v red card. I.e. the ref has to give the free kick in real time, but if he's unsure of whether the offence is yellow or straight red, he gets to view it on a screen.
Deciding whether an infringement is inside or outside the box - there arent many of those.
Scrap it for everything else.

I'd scrap the whole 'refs in a room' bollocks too.
The ref has to have authority over decisions. If he has to review on a screen, fixed to a 30 sec time limit, and only for a review of yellow/red and inside/outside the box, everyone would know what was going on. No reversal of decisions etc, just making sure that game changing calls like straight reds and pens that might be outside the box, are called right. You'll still get errors but shit happens, and it'll force the refs and linos to focus on, and own, their calls

Completely agree. Whether its a foul or not should still be a human judgement in real time by the referee on the pitch.

I think VAR should be used to determine whether hobhead is an arsehole or not.
Just so we can clear it up.
