How have we done?
Our recruitment has been almost identical to last season. Large budget, some big name signings to get us all excited but poor squad balance and certain areas lacking in quality.
Not good enough after a promising start.

Not good enough after a promising start. Just bascially smacks of players who weren’t wanted by their clubs. Very much square pegs/round holes scenario again.

Dreadful end to it, we've still got not depth in quality, nobody who can tackle and nobody who can cross or provide for the front 2. We've got a poor manager a shit owner and a shit chairman. It's a 16th and lower dogfight for us this year and they aren't getting anymore of my money this season, iptv all the way.

Too many numbers, not enough quality.
It's a big hard bastard league. Most sides have 3 or 4 in midfield. We dont have 1.
Bowyer will pay for it with his job before xmas.

6/10
Front two very good although our cunt of a manager doesn't play them as a partnership. Back up is non existent, Oteh will be a flop.
Wide options are dreadful. A non league quality player, a left back and Jordan fucking gibson is what we have to choose from. I'm just praying to every god that Zeli Ismail is half decent. Fat chance though.
Attacking midfield is good. Devitt, Cooke and McCartan are probably the best available in that position in this division.
CM is pretty woeful. I maintain Palmer is decent but is being held back because he's having to play alongside brain dead akpan and having to do three mens jobs in there. Anderson and devine are useless so in short none of the fuckers can defend.
Central defence is good.
RB with mellor and Henley is decent enough.
LB is bizarre. Henley isn't a LB in a million years - cunt doesn't have a left foot. Who knows what happened to Longridge but Wood isn't doing too bad so far so maybe he'll turn out to be a decent option.
GK is fine.
Distinct lack of pace all over the team despite bowyer promising to address it. But we've added height and physicality which is good - shame we haven't got one fucker who can beat the first man at a set piece however.
Our neglect of the midfield will fuck us this season no two ways about it, it's the most important part of the team.

After a positive early close season recruitment wise, it looks like we’ve truly got our City back. A big fat Meh.

I think we can all agree getting rid of Scannel was the right choice - just look at the quality we’ve been able to bring in since.
But being serious for a moment - I don’t understand our recruitment. We did well up front, back 4 seems taken care of, but injuries to Henley and Riley are a real blow. Especially when Jacko appears to be struggling.
Out wide, I think we lack quality, but can probably get by, certainly have options but it remains to be seen. The fact on Saturday we setup expecting our full backs to do our “winging” would suggest Bowyer doesn’t exactly rate our wide options either. I think it now puts too much onus on Donaldson and Vaughan.
Midfield is where we really struggle though. I’ve not seen us convincingly take hold of a game. Neither attacking wise or defensively. It’s going to be a real problem for us. Without the ball we look like we might never get it back.
Then you’ve got players like McCarten. How do they fit in? Simple answer he doesn’t. So why not cash in? Free up those wages we all love so much
It seemed so obvious we needed strengthening in midfield. At least elsewhere there are options. We freed up the wages - so that wasn’t the reason. So what was it? Bowyers/Rhodes phone book stopped picking up?

When was the last time we signed a player the selling club wanted to keep?

Vaughan is a good signing, but in terms of squad depth and a definite system to play to, we are lacking. A few ‘bigger’ signings but surrounded by a fair few speculative punts (not rhyming slang) and inexperienced players. Bowyer seems overly fixated by former players, i know this is not unheard of, but i feel there appears to be a bit more of a reliance on this than sometimes happens with a manager. The new lad connolly looked good in that one tv game v west ham last season, tormenting them out wide, but it does beg the question why he’s ended up with us in league two. Yet more inconsistency i guess. I said midtable at best in my prediction, nothing has changed my mind looking at how we’ve started and how we’ve performed and been set up to play.

We can't even get that right then? Shambles of a football club.

Apparently Akpan had a 2 month spell at Burton where he was causing all kinds of havoc for Championship defenders.
Imagine that.
Most of the time he barely moves at all and vs Crewe I was staggered to see that he actually has a decent engine on him. Dribbling past players and everything.
I genuinely think he's taking the piss as a footballer,

Akpan was very good away to Burton last season. His old club.
Hes been shit in every other game I've seen him.

Young Clough and Bowyer probably used to play matchbox cars together in the players bar at the City Ground. Nigels opinion on Hope probably means more than anything. Given that he reckons that Roy Keane is also a pal I'd be very interested to hear what Triggs' owner thinks of Mr Akpan.

In Akpan's defence, he is not a defensive midfielder which everyone thinks he is because he's built like one. But then again I'm not really sure what type of midfielder he is. He's to lazy to be a box to box player and hasn't got enough quality to be an attacking mid either.
