Only at Bradford City would we bust a gut to sign two of the best forwards in the league, then play one out of position and shimmy together a non league standard supply line to provide for them.

Be interested to see how today goes but taking Pritchard just smacks of it being a sweetener so Blackpool would take Scannell off our hands. Bet City have been touting Scannell around for a while trying to get a bite. And what is it with us signing players with a Bowyer link every time? Don't we look anywhere else?

Just think of the saved wages m9 You keep talking about "saved wages" as if we've done similar to when we let Windass go before we got relegated. In Scannell we've not let a world-beater go. I've seen nothing to suggest he would've been a success with us. He's looked enthusiastic but limited, and extremely slow for a 'speedy' winger. A kick and rush merchant good at winning corners but nothing else. Definitely living on past reputation as he did fuck all for us.

Yeah I bet Pritch is a miles better winger, plus we’ve got Gibbo, Ishmael and Devitt. Plus all that money we’ve saved. How can we possibly lose out in this deal?

Moshi kind of has a point in so far as the saved wages are worthless if we spend them on crap.
It’s all well and good having more money in the pot to make more signings but if the signings are conference level we might as well hang onto the money or have kept Scannell.
At the minute our chances for success seem to rest on whether or not players Bowyer knows are good enough. It’s the same as it’s ever been: fuck all scouting and relying solely on our manager’s phone contacts. We’re fucking shit.

Related to this I’ve just read a post on Bronco Talk where a poster is asking for a contact at City to recommend a player to. Wetherby Whopper tells him there’s a guy who’s a scout ‘of sorts’ and that he can get the info passed to Bowyer if he contacts someone else. Nobody picks up on it. We’ve no scouting to speak of. None. Recommendations go straight to the manager. This is why we continually sign shite. Due diligence and player research for us just means ‘played for the manager before’. Sometimes, if we’re getting really cosmopolitan, we might get a recommendation from an old contact of the manager’s working at another club somewhere. So someone the manager knows by proxy. We need to do our bit though even if the club isn’t doing theirs. We need to get behind the lads ffs and clap them into world-beaters. That’ll fix it.

There are professionalised scouting organisations who you can subscribe to and they'll provide a tiered service based on your requirements and how much of a budget you have. Most clubs use that sort of thing if they cant afford an expansive scouting network. We dont.
